Microbiologist
Job Type: Full-time Pay: ₹15,527.99 - ₹30,365.28 per month
Overview The Microbiologist will be responsible for conducting laboratory investigations focused on microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, viruses, and parasites. This role involves performing experiments, analyzing results, maintaining sterile lab environments, and supporting research or quality programs depending on the organization’s needs. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, excellent documentation abilities, and strict adherence to safety and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Laboratory Analysis & Testing Perform microbiological assays including culturing, staining, isolation, identification, and enumeration of microorganisms. Conduct sterility testing, microbial limit testing, water quality analysis, and environmental monitoring as required. Execute antimicrobial susceptibility testing and interpret results in accordance with standard protocols.
2. Research & Experimentation Design and carry out experiments to study growth patterns, resistance mechanisms, and biological interactions of microorganisms. Evaluate new laboratory methods, reagents, and equipment to improve testing accuracy and efficiency.
3. Documentation & Reporting Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records, logs, and reports following regulatory standards (GLP, GMP, ISO, etc.). Prepare technical documentation, research summaries, and compliance documentation for internal and external audits.
4. Quality & Compliance Ensure adherence to biosafety protocols and maintain sterile working conditions. Participate in audits, calibrations, equipment validations, and quality improvement initiatives. Follow national and international guidelines (FDA, WHO, ISO, ICH depending on industry).
5. Collaboration Work closely with cross-functional teams including quality assurance, production, R&D, medical teams, or food safety teams. Provide expert microbiological insights to support troubleshooting, product development, and process improvements.
Qualifications / Requirements
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Microbiology, Biotechnology, or related life sciences field. (Ph.D preferred for research-focused roles.) Hands-on experience with microbiological lab techniques, aseptic handling, and analytical instruments. Strong knowledge of microbial physiology, molecular biology, and laboratory safety. Familiarity with regulatory and quality systems (GMP/GLP, ISO 17025, etc.) depending on sector. Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to interpret scientific data. Competence in scientific writing and use of laboratory software (LIMS preferred).
Preferred Skills
Experience with PCR, sequencing techniques, flow cytometry, or molecular diagnostics.
Knowledge of disinfectant efficacy testing, environmental microbiology, or fermentation processes.
Understanding of antibiotic resistance patterns and emerging microbial threats.
Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects in a high-demand laboratory setting.
Working Conditions
Lab-based role requiring the use of PPE and strict adherence to biosafety procedures.
May involve extended hours depending on experiment schedules.
Exposure to biological agents in controlled environments.
