Call for Empanelment of Subject MaCer Specialists (SMS) in the Centre of Excellence for Human-Wildlife Conflict Management

Sálim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History (SACON), South India Centre of Wildlife Institute of India (WII), an autonomous instition under the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India, wishes to empanel Subject MaCer Specialists (SMS) (Indian Na(onals only) on purely temporary basis for the Centre of Excellence for HumanWildlife Conflict Management. Details of the posi4ons and application procedures are given below.

Essential Qualifications

Doctoral Degree in relevant subject areas from recognized institute/ University AND Three years of Research Experience (after obtaining Doctoral degree) in R&D in Industrials or Science & Technology Institutions or Scientific activities and Services related/complementary to Human-Wildlife Conflict Management. OR
Master’s Degree in relevant subject areas from recognized institute/ University AND Five years of Research Experience (after obtaining Master’s degree) in R&D in Industrials or Science & Technology Institutions or Scientific activities and Services related/complementary to Human-Wildlife Conflict Management. OR
Professional Bachelor’s Degree in relevant subject areas from recognized Institute/ University AND Eight years of Research Experience (after obtaining Professional degree) in R&D in Industrials or Science & Technology Institutions or Scientific activities and Services related/complementary to Human-Wildlife Conflict Management.

Desirable Qualifications

i) Proven track record of academic/service excellence with experience in relevant subject area and/or contribution in humanwildlife interface/conflict management.
ii) Experienced Forest Officers/ Scientists/ Faculty/ Technical Professionals with relevant experience.

Description of Work

•Provide technical advice and strategic inputs on national-level Human–Wildlife Conflict (HWC) management, including matters related to policy and law.
•Facilitate national workshops, consultations, and review meetings; support the review, updating, and synchronization of the National Action Plan and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) on HWC, and critically review State-level HWC policies and action plans.
•Provide strategic technical support for the development, coordination, and implementation of project components across India, including policy and advocacy support, spatial analysis and knowledge management, integration of advanced technologies, stakeholder engagement and outreach, capacity and skill development, action research, and monitoring and evaluation.
•Development and deployment of advance technologies, and Integration of technologies and Citizen Science to Dashboard with real-time monitoring for HWC management.
•Guide and provide technical support to project staff to ensure timely achievement of program objectives, milestones, and deliverables.
•Support communication, outreach, and knowledge dissemination activities, including preparation of technical and best-practice resources materials aligned with national priorities.
•Develop national-level certification and award schemes and certificate courses on Human–Wildlife Interactions (HWI), including curriculum design and training materials.
•Ensure timely preparation, quality review, and submission of project reports, national and regional HWC action plans, policy documents, and other mandated deliverables.
•Provide technical support and guidance for rescue and handling of conflict species, wildlife disease surveillance, implementation of population control measures, and integration of One Health research approaches for effective HWI management.
•Coordinate and work closely with State Forest Departments, other line departments, research institutions, NGOs, and local communities to develop national and regional action plans and deliver training and capacity-building programmes for diverse stakeholder groups to minimize HWC. •Represent the programme in national forums, reviews, policy discussions, inter-ministerial consultations, and high-level meetings.
•Support Nodal Officers/Project Investigators in achieving programme objectives and support other institutional activities

Please write in the email body, the Subject Matter/Area, under which the applicant wishes to empanel as Subject Matter Specialist (SMS) in the project. Please do NOT send hard copies of CV/applications.
2. The CV should contain updated information on personal and contact details, educational and professional qualifications including workshops, trainings, courses, and conferences attended or organized, employment details, list of relevant publications, and other professional achievements related to the Subject Matter.
3. A candidate can apply for a maximum of TWO Categories/Subject Areas of SMS only. Candidates applying for more than one category should submit SEPARATE sets of CV as relevant to the Subject Matter.
4. Empanelment of Subject Matter Specialists will be done by a duly constituted Institutional Screening Committee, which shall scrutinize each application and shortlist a pool of subject experts based on qualification, experience, and professional achievements in relevant disciplines. The final shortlisted and approved Panel of Subject Matter Specialists shall be hosted on institutional website. The empanelment will also be individually communicated to all the selected applicants by email.
5. Mere fulfilment of the minimum advertised Eligible criteria and experience requirement DOES NOT automatically entitle an applicant to be listed in the empanelled list. The decision of the Institute in all matters relating to eligibility, acceptance, or rejection of the application and mode of selection will be final and binding on the candidates.
