Recruitment of Research Personnel in SACON Project

Sálim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History (SACON), South India Centre of Wildlife
Institute of India (WII) under the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change
(MoEFCC), Government of India, wishes to engage the following research personnel (Indian
Nationals only) on purely temporary basis.
Details of the positions and application procedures are given
below.
1. Project Title: QUANTIFYING MICROPLASTIC CONTAMINATION IN INLAND WETLAND
ECOSYSTEMS: SPATIAL, TEMPORAL AND TROPHIC DISTRIBUTION
[PI - Dr. Goldin Quadros]
1(a). PROJECT ASSOCIATE-II
• Duration: Two years
• Essential Qualifications: Post-graduate degree with a minimum of 55% marks in life
sciences or environmental sciences (Zoology/Wildlife Biology/Wildlife Science/
Conservation Biology/Biodiversity Studies/Forestry/Ecological Sciences/Environmental
Studies or any other allied disciplines) from a recognized university AND two years of
post-PG research experience in relevant field.
• Desirable Qualifications:
i) Knowledge of microplastic contamination and related
studies;
ii) skill in identification/classification of aquatic invertebrates and vertebrates,
and in microplastic sampling and processing techniques;
iii) familiarity with data analysis
and GIS tools;
iv) good track record of research publications;
iv) proficiency in written
and spoken Tamil.
• Upper Age Limit as on 06-03-2026: 35 years
• Monthly Emoluments: Rs.42,000 + HRA for CSIR-UGC NET (Lectureship)/GATE qualified

candidates and Rs. 33,000 + HRA for non-NET/GATE qualified candidates.
• Description of Work: The selected person will be expected
i) to conduct wetland surveys
in select districts and locations in Tamil Nadu,
ii) to collect and process samples, and
analyze data on microplastics and biodiversity,
iii) to conduct social surveys to
understand perceptions on plastics,
iv) to work closely with the forest department, state
land use planning department and local communities to develop sustainable
conservation/management plans, and
v) to assist Project Investigators in achieving
project goals and other institutional activities.
