POSITION - 1
Sector - AI/ML × Discovery (bridge role) | Site - C-CAMP, Bangalore
C-CAMP is partnering with a leading global life-sciences investment and innovation organization to build a dedicated scientific services team in Bangalore. The team will support high-impact work spanning biotechnology research, AI-enabled scientific intelligence, computational drug discovery, and early-stage healthcare innovation.
About this role
The AI/ML team is a core pillar of this new scientific initiative at C-CAMP, Bangalore. Its mandate is twofold: accelerate drug-discovery programs through computational and machine-learning methods, and build reusable platform capabilities that support the broader research effort. All roles on this team are based at C-CAMP, Bangalore (on-site), report into the Head of Research, and are recruited and employed by C-CAMP.
We are looking for scientists and engineers who are excited to apply modern ML to real drug-discovery problems, who can work hands-on in a small, fast-moving team, and who value rigor, reproducibility, and measurable impact on programs.
Role | Computational / Cheminformatics Scientist |
Reports to | Centre Head and Global Project teams |
Location | C-CAMP, Bangalore (on-site) |
Education | PhD in computational chemistry, cheminformatics, medicinal chemistry, or a related field |
Experience | Hands-on expertise with cheminformatics |
Role overview
The Computational/Cheminformatics Scientist is the bridge between the AI/ML platform and the medicinal-chemistry bench. This role applies established computational-chemistry and cheminformatics methods to drive design decisions, manage compound data, and provide the day-to-day analytical backbone of the DMTA cycle. It complements the ML Scientist: less focused on building novel models, more on rigorous application of the computational toolkit to live chemistry problems.
Key responsibilities
- Run structure-based and ligand-based design: docking, pharmacophore modeling, molecular similarity, and SAR analysis to guide compound design.
- Own the compound registration and cheminformatics layer: structure standardization, property calculation, library design, and enumeration.
- Perform virtual screening and triage of vendor/virtual libraries to nominate compounds for synthesis and testing.
- Generate clear, decision-ready analyses for chemists and program teams within each DMTA cycle.
- Curate assay and compound data and feed high-quality datasets to the ML Scientist for model building.
- Support the with cheminformatics and computational analyses as needed.
Required Qualifications
- PhD in computational chemistry, cheminformatics, medicinal chemistry, or a related field — or equivalent experience.
- Hands-on expertise with cheminformatics toolkits (e.g., RDKit) and molecular modeling/docking software.
- Solid understanding of medicinal-chemistry principles, SAR, and drug-like property optimization.
- Scripting proficiency (Python) for data handling and workflow automation.
- Ability to communicate computational results to chemists in actionable terms.
- Experience with free-energy methods (FEP/MD), structure prediction, or generative design.
- Track record supporting hit-to-lead and lead-optimization campaigns.
- Familiarity with ML methods and collaboration with ML/data teams.

B. Research Scientist — Competitive Intelligence
Positions - 1
Sector: AI-Enabled Competitive Intelligence | Site: C-CAMP, Bangalore
C-CAMP is partnering with a leading global life-sciences investment and innovation organization to build a dedicated scientific services team in Bangalore. The team will support high-impact work spanning biotechnology research, AI-enabled scientific intelligence, computational drug discovery, and early-stage healthcare innovation.
About the role
The AI-enabled competitive intelligence team supporting the global group is a core pillar of this new scientific initiative at C-CAMP. The team helps the partner organization and its portfolio companies across healthcare and planetary health understand where the world is heading, spot which technologies are likely to win, and identify key incumbents and disruptors — mapping critical business pathways to learn how great ideas become durable businesses with real-world impact.
These Research Scientists build and maintain the systems, tools, and data infrastructure underlying the partner organization's research and investment process. They specialize in developing comprehensive knowledge of the therapeutic landscape, mapping every relevant program, dataset, and key player across their areas of coverage. We seek individuals who are intellectually curious, analytically rigorous, and motivated by the challenge of finding signal before others do.
Candidates must bring demonstrated AI expertise and a builder's mindset — not just using AI, but fluent in the latest tools and frameworks and actively creating new tools and workflows that expand what the team can do: automating recurring processes, improving the rigor of research, and enabling new types of work not previously feasible at scale. AI is central to this role; we are specifically looking for people who can push the frontier of how the team operates.
Role | Research Scientist — Competitive Intelligence |
Reports to | Centre Head, with functional reporting to Global team |
Location | C-CAMP, Bangalore (on-site) |
Education | PhD in the biological sciences or MBBS required |
AI requirement | Formal AI/ML training plus demonstrated hands-on tool-building experience |
Relevant Skills
- Ability and desire to learn and assimilate information rapidly about new science and therapeutic areas.
- Ability to accurately interpret preclinical/clinical data and familiarity with endpoints, study design, and regulatory processes.
- Deep familiarity with the current AI landscape, including frontier LLMs, emerging tools, and agent-based frameworks; ability to evaluate new tools critically and identify where they meaningfully improve research quality and team workflows.
- Demonstrated experience building AI tools or workflows in a project or work environment — creating robust systems others can rely on, not just using AI.
- Strong pattern recognition across large bodies of scientific literature, patent filings, and conference publications.
- Ability to convey clear and concise ideas through written and oral communication, including competitive landscape summaries, data comparison tables, and briefing documents.
- Ability to juggle multiple business requirements to meet high-priority needs and deadlines, recognizing and communicating proactively when additional support is needed.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain comprehensive competitive landscape databases capturing all known clinical and preclinical data across programs in a given therapeutic area.
- Mine patents, publications, and conference abstracts at scale to identify novel programs, emerging mechanisms, and new companies.
- Stay current on emerging scientific trends, novel mechanisms, and early signals of credibility across multiple therapeutic landscapes.
- Interview and survey key opinion leaders and treating physicians to understand standard of care, unmet needs, and likely reception of therapies in development.
- Design and build AI-native tools and workflows that improve how the investment team researches, analyzes, and synthesizes competitive and scientific information — automating recurring processes, data validation and quality checks, and new capabilities that expand what the team can take on at scale.
- Stay current on the rapidly evolving AI tool landscape and proactively identify opportunities to apply new models, frameworks, or approaches to improve quality and efficiency.
- Communicate analyses and competitive intelligence in written and oral forms.
- Assess inbound investment opportunities and provide competitive context to inform initial recommendations to the team.
Qualifications & Experience
We are looking for curious, intelligent, and driven individuals capable of delivering results in a timely manner and at the highest levels of quality. All applicants must meet the following requirements to be considered:
- PhD in the biological sciences or MBBS degree required.
- Formal training or certification in AI/ML (e.g., coursework, a dedicated degree component, or a recognized program) combined with demonstrated hands-on experience applying AI tools in a research or professional context.
- Proficiency in Python and hands-on experience with modern AI/ML frameworks, LLM APIs, agent-based frameworks, and retrieval-augmented (RAG) or data-pipeline tooling.
- Experience working with scientific and biomedical data sources (literature, patents, clinical-trial registries, conference abstracts) and structuring them into usable databases.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to produce clear briefing documents and landscape summaries for an investment audience.
- Ability to work on-site at C-CAMP, Bangalore, and collaborate across time zones with global Healthcare Research teams.
