KHT Ph.D. Fellowship 2008-09

Applications are invited from eligible candidates for the award of Kirkhouse Trust
(KHT), UK sponsored PhD fellowships
to students admitted during the academic year 2008-09

at UAS Bangalore and UAS Dharwad to pursue PhD programme in the area of

Crop Improvement, i.e.,

Plant Biotechnology,

Genetics & Plant Breeding,

Plant Physiology,

Seed Technology,

Plant Pathology,

Agriculture Entomology,

Horticulture & others.

The applications should reach Dr. P. H. Ramanjini Gowda (ramanjini@ yahoo.com), Co-ordinator and Professor & Head, KHT Activities at UAS, Bangalore, Department of Biotechnology, UAS, GKVK, Bangalore on or before 25th October, 2008.

Eligibility for awarding the KHT PhD Fellowship & Selection Procedure

1. The applicant should possess good academic record both at under Graduate and Master’s degree programme.
2. PhD students admitted during 2008-09 to the Departments of Plant Biotechnology,
Genetics & Plant Breeding, Agriculture Microbiology, Plant Physiology, Seed
Technology, Plant Pathology, Agriculture Entomology, Horticulture or any other
discipline qualify students to pursue PG training in crop related to crop improvement in Agricultural Universities of Karnataka state will be considered.
3. Interested students should apply furnishing their resume, personal statement (with a justification for applying for the PhD fellowship) for judging the ability of the applicant.
4. Short listed candidates will be called for an interview during second week of December 2008 and they should attend the interview at their own cost.
5. Merit list of the applicants will be prepared as per the academic record, Project proposal and performance in the interview giving weightage as under.
a. Under Graduate programme 30 %
b. Master’s Programme 40 %
c. Personal statement

d. Interview Performance 20 %

The KHT PhD Fellowship Includes the Following


1. Selected applicants will be given a Fellowship equivalent in value to the fellowship
awarded by CSIR for three years including the period of course work with a possibility of up to one more year of extension. Provision to amend from time to time as per CSIR
norms. The fellowship covers contingency of Rs. 10,000/- per annum. Possibilities for
visiting advanced laboratories within and outside the country for a maximum period of six months depending upon the research need of the student.
2. The consumables for molecular work and the laboratory facilities if needed will be
provided at the Kirkhouse Trust laboratory at UAS Bangalore.
3. During the tenure of the fellowship, the student will normally be expected to attend one International Seminar/Symposium and present a research paper. The KHT will provide funds for the above which includes to & fro Airfares accommodation, registration fee etc.
