Mammalian Cell Culture: A laboratory Training Course

June 16 – 19, 2010

Background and Objective

Within a biologist’s toolkit, animal cell culture has come to play a prominent role. In the pharmaceutical industry, cell culture is used to produce a significant proportion of biopharmaceuticals as well as monoclonal antibodies for diagnostic use. In addition, the use of animal cells is expanding in a wide range of other applications such as drug screening, tissue engineering, gene therapy, toxicology and traditional  applications such as virology.

The objective of this workshop is to provide comprehensive training in both theoretical as well as practical approaches pertaining to mammalian cell culture.

The Content

The workshop aims to provide hands on training on the following basic techniques:

o Basic cell culture techniques (Culture and Maintenance of cell lines, Preparation of Culture medium, Plating etc.)
o Primary Cell Culture (Establishment of the culture from different tissue sources)
o Drug uptake studies
o Transfection of cell lines
o Cytotoxicity assays

The format of the workshop will include practical sessions as well as theoretical lectures to provide the requisite understanding regarding the cell culture  techniques

Who should attend?

This workshop is intended for personnel with relevant scientific background eeking basic training in cell culture techniques. The course would be informative for personnel involved in Cell biology or biotechnology based research.

The training course would prove beneficial to academicians, students and researchers, who intend to take up projects based on mammalian cell culture.

How to apply

Enrollment is restricted to 10 candidates and therefore applications would be first come first served basis.

FEES AND REGISTRATION

For Industry : Rs. 6000/-
For Academics : Rs. 5000/-

Fee includes tuition, workshop material, lunch and tea/coffee. It does not include dinner and accommodation. 

Cancellations will not be accepted less than 15 days prior to the start of the workshop, but substitutions may be made at any time.

Registration over telephone / e-mail will not be accepted without receipt of fees.
At the end of the course, certificate will be given to all participants.
Participants are advised to make their own travel and stay arrangements.

Rush completed registration form along with fee by demand draft (in favour of Shri B. V. Patel Education Trust, payable at Ahmedabad).
