8 PhD Positions available in Berlin

A new international PhD program GRK1673 titled “Functional Molecular Infection Epidemiology” or “Bridge” (Berlin-Hyderabad Research Training School on Infectious Diseases and Genetic-Functional Epidemiology), a joint effort of the Freie University Berlin, under the umbrella of the Dahlem Research School (DRS), together with the University of Hyderabad, India, supported by the German research foundation (DFG) will officially start on 1st October 2010.

Bridge will provide young researchers from Germany and India a one of its kind studying and research experience. Students doing their doctoral studies within the framework of this program can earn a PhD degree by fulfillment of the requirements of the Dahlem Research School of the Freie Universität Berlin.

All applicants interested in doing a PhD through the Bridge program must hold a Masters degree, a German Diploma or an equivalent degree in biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, chemistry, medicine, veterinary medicine or other related subjects.

Candidates will be selected based on academic qualifications, motivation, suitability to the program and referee’s evaluations. An important feature of the program includes a “Research stay” where students doing their PhD in Berlin will spend up to 6 months in the partner lab in Hyderabad, India while students from Hyderabad will come and spend time in a partner lab in Berlin.

Candidates will be short-listed and invited to Berlin for a personal interview in an assessment centre that will be conducted between 4th October 2010 and 7th October 2010.
