  1. They will ask you the questions regarding your project. So, one should prepare well related to his/her project. Preference is given to DBT sponsored departments. Overall, interview is quite easy to handle.

  2. They will mostly ask you about your project... It depends on the board you attend... there will be 2-3 boards ... each board having 4-5 persons to interview u...Some board asks only about the project future perspectives of ur project etc...and some ask only basic questions about pcr, page, chromatography.... principle behind it.... they just want 2 knw... u knw the concept or u r just mugging up the things... So if u r clear with concepts... no need 2 worry...

Interview is purely based dissertation work which you have done.Interview for each person is for about 30 minutes,so one should be thorough with their project work.At the same time it is quite easy to handle the person who will interview.be thorough with general chemistry ,for example they will ask molarity formula, what is 0.1N NAOH!

I wish ALL THE BEST those who are attending interview.Be brave, positive and honest.

ONCE AGAIN I CONFIRM THAT 75PERCENT IT IS EASY TO FACE THIS INTERVIEW.JUST DO YOUR BASIC THINGS RIGHT DURING THE INTERVIEW.

  4. As all above said, questions will be based on your project. It is easy to cross the interview. As for me,i and another 2 members attended interview at the same time. interview was for only for 5 min and they asked abt my project and abt any biotech industry i know.

All the best. Do not panic.

  15. Hi Friends,
Myself with my 5 colleagues attended this BCIL interview on 13th Aug 2010.
There were separate 2 panels including 4 scientists from good institutes like NII, AIIMS,etc. They will first of all ask you to explain your whole dissertation work, so please bring a copy of your thesis compulsorily. During this time, they will ask you many questions like why did you do it or why not? how? etc. After the dissertation discussion, they may ask you some basic questions from general life science like pH of any enzyme, M.M equation and its reciprocal, cell cycle, etc. It is important to note that most of questions will be asked from your PG specialization eg. if you are from biotech they may ask to tell the protocol to syntheise alkaline phosphatase in vitro, etc; if you are from neuroscience, they may ask to tell about major anatomical functional parts of nervous system.
Overall, it is not a tough interview. It may run from 10-30 minutes depending on your performence and interest of the panel in your work. After a big analysis,I have made a hypothetical scale for BCIL selection --
Presentation and Questions based on Dissertation=55%,
    Other general questions=20%,
    English fluency and confidence level=15%,
Any Reference letter from pharma company=10%
**Although they prefer students of DBT sponsored courses.
I wish all the best to all aspirants.

  16. I have been shorlisted for the interview to be held at chennai on the 10th of September. I would like to know the companies that are acknowledged by BCIL. Do R&D labs of Pharmaceutical companies fall under this training programme?

  17. hi every one.!!
    this is ashish....
Myself with my 2 colleagues attended this BCIL interview on 27th Aug 2010.
There were 4 PEOPLE to take our interview. They will first of all ask you to give detail about ur Education background, then ur project title. if your project is something really very innovative..&.NEW then only they tell you to exlain in short about your whole dissertation work, other wise they dont even look your project file in their hand and start asking some basic question. so please bring a copy of your thesis compulsorily. During this time, they will ask you many questions like why did you do it or why not? how? etc. After the dissertation discussion, then they may ask you some basic questions from general life science like pH of any enzyme, M.M equation and its reciprocal, cell cycle, anything related to biotechnology etc. It is important to note that most of questions will be asked from your PG specialization (initially they ask you that what all exp. you have done in ur last qualification, then put Questions on that topic.)eg.
Overall, it is not a tough interview. It hardly run for 10 minutes only depending on your innovative project work that u have done and interest of the panel in your work.
But last not the least most important things which was very clear during interview that they will select/give priority to only those student who undergone DBT supported programm or having recommendation letter from industry, then only they select other students (having very innovative dissertation with good presentation)if vaccancy is available..OTHERWISE they will not show you any sign of intrest in taking your interview.
After a big analysis,I have made a hypothetical scale (95% correct) for BCIL selection --
Presentation and Questions based on Dissertation=10%,
    Other general questions=5%,
    English fluency and confidence level=5%,
Any Reference letter from pharma company=30%
**Although they prefer students of DBT sponsored courses (50 - 80 %).
I wish all the best to all aspirants.

  20. Hey!!
I attended BCIL-BITP interview on 27th Aug. 2 panels each of 4 eminent scientists. They were very friendly & calm.. not trying 2 harass u. So, dont b afraid of them. We were interviewed 3 at a time. All 3 were asked same ques on different piece of paper. We had to mark d correct ans or write d ans in one word.. thats it.
They did not ask about dissertation to either of us. Ques were based on the basics of PCR, Lineweaver Burk plot (MM Eqn), Restriction Enzymes, Microbial Growth curve, and Protein Purification.
Nothing 2 b afraid of.. really!
Just be confident and clear with ur basics. If u hav recommendation.. it would be bonus (panel is not bothered bout reco; they wont even ask).
After all its ur knowledge & confidence which is going to pay u.
    All d best!

  39. Biotechnology never lies in books.so clearly the questions are asked mainly on the applied aspects of cutting-edge research and development, and of course the analytical skills as well. The clarity of all rudiments in MSc project is alwaz an advantage..!!Last but not the least ,always one qn. is asked to every body that which subject area r u interested in..Be careful in answering that b'cz this finally decides about the fate of your interview.

  49. heya pubs,
Firstly I would like to congratulate all those who have been shortlisted for the interview. To be honest, out of anxiety once I too had visited this site for getting views now when I've got selected, its my turn to further help u guys, for u to get rid of ur fear. I've attended BCIL interview on 5th sep'13 for BIOINFORMATICS Industrial Training i.e BIITP 2013-14.
Talking about the interview I would definitely agree with most of above comments that the panel is friendly n cool. They asked me to elaborate about my dissertation work, then asked me few questions related to it.Then they moved on with few fundamental questions from bioinformatics, which included brief note on alpha-helix n beta sheet, name of d discoverer of alpha helix,etc...They just wanted to clear if I was aware enough of the basics thats it...allover the interview was pretty simple from their end.
From my personal experience what I need to say is be honest while answering and dont lose ur self-confidence even if u skip 1 or two qs.Just have good grip over ur communication skills. Believe me there is nothing much to get stressed eventhough if its ur 1st time.Last but not the least never give up ur hope.I also hope my words could convey little moral strength to u.
All the very best to all the aspirants...! :)
