Department / Research group: Haematoloy, Oncology and Tumorimmunology
1 PhD Student
Description: The successful candidate will commit to the identification of cellular interactions between lymphoma B cells and their accessory or tumor stroma cells, also referred to as microenvironment. This type of cellular crosstalk includes lymphoma B cells, mesenchymal or bone-marrow-derived stromal cells, but also cells of the innate and adaptive immune response. The candidate PhD student will address the pathogenetic involvement of a non-malignant environment within secondary lymphoid organs and will characterize the molecular pathways that stimulate lymphoma B cell growth in vivo. Lymphoma growth and dissemination will be studied in a transgenic animal model which mimicks slowly progressing human non Hodgkin lymphoma. Ultimately, based on the identification of pivotal stromal cell types and signaling pathways, the candidate will apply immunological and pharmacological intervention strategies that are targeted at the lymphoma-stroma interface.
Skills: We are looking for enthusiastic applicants who should hold a Diploma/Masters degree in biochemistry, biology or related sciences. Strong interest in oncology, hematology, or immunology is required. Experience in animal models is advantageous. Likewise, experience in molecular biology or modern microscopic techniques would be helpful. Candidates should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
We provide an excellent and stimulating environment in terms of equipment and thesis supervision. The candidate will be enrolled and mentored in a prestigious PhD program.
Salary: Equivalent to EO 13, 50% (TVöD-O)
Start date: As soon as possible
Limitation: Funding is provided initially for 12 months, extension after re-evaluation
