Tropical Botanic Garden & Research Institute is located 40 km away from Thiruvananthapuram city on Thiruvananthapuram – Shencottah Road. Founded in 1979, this is one of the premier R&D organizations in India devoted to conservation and sustainable utilization of plant diversity. The institute is conserving large number of plant species among botanic gardens in Asia. The garden at present maintains species of 800 trees, 60 bamboos, 102 palms, 100 wild edibles, 840 medicinal and aromatic plants including 100 rare ones, 600 orchids and 150 hybrids, 150 ferns, 35 gymnosperms and more than 1000 varieties/cultivars of ornamentals. TBGRI is recognized as National Centre of Excellence in ex-situ conservation and a National Gene Bank for medicinal and aromatic plants.

Eligibility This Refresher Course in PLANT TAXONOMY is open to all College and University Teachers from botany discipline who have an aptitude / desire to study Plant Taxonomy. Research scholars who have registered for their PhD programme in Botany can also apply for this Courses to enhance their skills

How to Apply Applicants are requested to send their brief resume, along with the registration form duly filled in with registration fee before November 25, 2010. A one page write-up on how the proposed workshop will help you in your future research/teaching should also accompany the registration details.

Registration Registration fee is Rs. 2000/- which includes accommodation, workshop bag, course materials, lunch, dinner, tea etc. Accommodation will be arranged within or near to the Institute. The amount towards Registration charge should be paid by DD drawn in favour of “Director, TBGRI” payable at Thiruvananthapuram. The selected candidates will be informed through e-mail by November 26th, 2010.
