ABOUT THE SEMINAR The World Health Organization established World AIDS Day in 1988. World AIDS Day, observed December 1 each year, is dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection. It is common to hold memorials to honor persons who have died from HIV/AIDS on this day. This year the World AIDS Campaign is working to promote the Light for Rights campaign. Light for Rights events are taking place on every continent this World AIDS Day. In this connection, Department of Biotechnology, AMET University is organizing a one day event as a State Level Seminar on AIDS awareness on December 3, 2010 at AMET University. The registration is free and open to all. But the contests are confined to students only. Lunch and light refreshments will be provided. Certificates will be issued for both winners and participants.

EVENTS
  • A popular lecture by a leading Biomedical Research Expert in the City.
  • Display of AIDS informative posters made by students and research scholars of Department of Biotechnology, AMET University and One best poster will be selected and awarded.
  • Release of an information booklet cum souvenir about AIDS facts and awareness programs prepared by Faculties of Department of Biotechnology, AMET University
  • Release of an AIDS Awareness Pamphlet in Tamil to disseminate among common public by the Participants of the awareness program.
  • Screening of AIDS Awareness short films and documentaries and Animation videos about facts and features of AIDS and HIV.
  • An oral presentation competition for students. Three best presentations will be awarded.
  • Distribution of Tamil Pamphlets to Public in and around Kanathur by the Students of Department of Biotechnology AMET University
  • A valedictory address by a Biomedical Research Expert.
CONTESTS FOR STUDENTS
§  An oral presentation competition for students. Three best presentations will be awarded.

Theme: AIDS: Trends, awareness, therapy, social issues and prevention.

§  Screening and narration of AIDS Awareness short films, documentaries and animations. One best film narration will be awarded.

Theme: AIDS: Trends, awareness, therapy, social issues and prevention; facts and features of AIDS and HIV.
