About the Workshop The "National Workshop on Toxicological Techniques - 2011 (TOXITEC-2011)" will be organized by the Department of Zoology, Annamalai University, Annamalainagar - 608 002, Tamil Nadu on March 19th & 20th, 2011. The members of the organizing committee take pleasure in inviting you to participate in this workshop.
The environments have become a major source of concern all over the world. The health of the population depends upon good quality environmental factors including air, water, soil, food and many others. The interaction between environmental risk and health is often complex and can involve a variety of social, occupational and lifestyle factors. This emphasizes the importance of considering an interdisciplinary approach. The science of Toxicology is one of the most interdisciplinary field. Biologists, microbiologists, chemists, engineers, environmentalists, ecologists and other scientists have worked hand in hand with this new discipline. The issue of assessment of environmental effect of chemicals is very complex. It depends on the organism tested and involves not only toxicity testing of single chemical but also interactive effect such as neurotoxicity, hepato-toxicity, nephro-toxicity, cardio-toxicity, genotoxicity, mutagenicity and xeno-toxicity testings. There is a growing need for techniques and practices to minimize the environmental effect of chemicals and for the implementation of the corresponding principles in the planning of environmental policy and decision-making. This workshop will also bring together scientists, naturalists, environmental scientists, taxonomists, teachers, research scholars and students, working on various fields of science. This workshop will form a platform to interact with experts fromdifferent fields. The two day workshop comprises hands on training, plannery sessions as well as discussions on various avenues of Toxicological science.
