Indo-German Science Centre for Infectious Diseases (IG-SCID) is a joint initiative of Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and Helmholtz Association (HGF) with the mission to strengthen Indo-German cooperation in the field of infection research.The purpose of this Fellowship under the IG-SCID programme is to provide opportunities to Indian and German researchers to undertake research in thematic areas of infectious diseases. The Fellowships would provide a platform for exchange of information /learning and training in cutting edge technologies in newer areas of science for young scientist(s) (up to 45 years of age) working in the respective fields under the IG-SCID programme.

By ICMRA. From India to GermanyFellow will be entitled to travel by Air India in economy class (excursion fare) Visa fees, and overseas medical insurance.B. From Germany to India· The ICMR shall provide Fellowship amount of Rs. 20,000/- per month to the visiting Fellow to India. (Payment @Rs. 700/- per day will be made in case visit exceeds a full month).· Accommodation in the host institutional guest house of Research institution /or Organization/hostel accommodation. Date of visit may be decided based on availability of Institutional guest house.By HGFA. From India to GermanyThe Fellow will receive a subsistence allowance of 2.300 Euro per month. Accommodation and local transportation will be paid by the Fellow from this allowance.B. From Germany to IndiaFellow will be entitled to an economy class air ticket, local transportation to the airport and visa fees.
Indian ProcedureTen copies of the application in prescribed format should be submitted to: Indo-German Science Centre for Infectious Diseases (IG-SCID), Room No. 422 (Porta Cabin), International Health Division, Indian Council of Medical Research, V. Ramalingaswami Bhawan, Post Box No.4911, Ansari Nagar, New Delhi-110029.The Indian applicants should visit ICMR website: http://www.icmr.nic.in or IG-SCID website: http://www.icmr.nic.in/igscid for the detailed Guidelines and Application format (downloadable).Last date of receipt of applications in India: 15th May, 2011.German ProcedureThe German applicants may apply by e-mail at gsc@helmholtz-hzi.de with a cover letter, summary of project, abridged C.V., name of host institute and the potential dates of the visit. Applications should be submitted at least four months before the planned visit. German scientists may visit HZI website- http://www.helmholtz-hzi.de/en/ for detailed information for availing fellowship to India under this programme.
1. The applicant should be a citizen of India and working in the country. The individual scientist/researcher availing this fellowship would be referred to as IG-SCID Fellow.2. The application (in prescribed format) should be duly forwarded by the Employer/Head of the Institution with a statement that the candidate will be considered as a researcher/ employee of the Institute during the period of his/her fellowship.3. The Parent institute shall continue to pay salary/stipend and other benefits such as leave, medical, gratuity, GPF and pension etc as applicable to the Fellow candidate while he/she is away for the fellowship. No liability on any of these accounts will be borne by ICMR.4. The candidates should correspond directly with the German Institute/Laboratory to be visited for their training. A letter of acceptance from the Institute/laboratory to be visited is required to be produced along with the application form. Once selected, the Fellow will not be allowed to change the Mentor/German laboratory/Institute.5. The applicant should submit a concrete plan of training pertaining to the proposal submitted for availing the fellowship.6. The IG-SCID Fellow will be required to execute a legal /service bond of Rs.5.00 Lakhs to the parent Institute that he/she belongs to and will serve the parent Indian institute for a period of at least 3 years after return from training fellowship.7. If the Fellow does not return to India or gets a job overseas on completion of the fellowship, or fails to fulfill any of the above requirements, he/she will be liable to reimburse the whole of the expenditure incurred during the fellowship period, including the airfare, from the guarantees in one lump sum within one month of the completion of the term of the fellowship and remit it to ICMR. An undertaking to this effect on a Rs 50/- non judicial stamp paper would however be required to be submitted by the guarantees, in case of selection of the Fellow.8. Fellow will be entitled to travel by Air India in economy class (excursion fare) by the shortest route from the place of duty and ticket would be booked/ arranged by ICMR. The Fellow will submit the original bill/receipt of medical insurance, visa fee, and taxi charges etc for reimbursement to ICMR. Visa formalities are to be completed by the Fellow.9. The Fellow should submit a final work report (in prescribed format) on the research and training undertaken in the German Laboratory/Institute during the fellowship period.10. A progress report (in the prescribed format) evaluating the performance of the IG-SCID Fellow from the host institution should also be submitted.11. Total claim bills on the budget head of fellowship should not exceed the amount specified under the financial support. In the event of cancellation of travel ticket due to change of date of visit/change of sector of journey or any other reasons, the cancellation charges and difference of fare, if any, will be met by the Fellow.12. ICMR will not be liable for anything whatsoever including GOI clearances, medical insurance etc, beyond the specified duration of stay (as approved by selection committee).13. The Fellow will not be allowed to avail the fellowship during the preceding financial year, after due selection in a given financial year.
The preliminary screening of applications will be done at the International Health Division, ICMR and the short listed candidates will be considered by an independent Selection Committee for awarding the “IG-SCID fellowships”. The selection will be based on the evaluation of the merit of the candidate and training needs in the field of infectious diseases under the ICMR-HGF MoU.
