BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES
Molecular biology provides a foundation for work in the growing fields of genomics, cell biology, biotechnology, microbiology, diagnostics and therapeutics. The methods of molecular biology have transformed research in the biological and medical sciences. Molecular biology techniques are being used extensively in modern day drug discovery, development and diagnostics.
The objective of this workshop is to familiarize participants with concepts pertaining to basic molecular biology principles and the techniques applied in various contemporary areas of research.
THE CONTENT
Course format will include lectures, supplemented with individual hands-on experience in a variety of molecular biology techniques.
First half of each day will consist of lectures and discussions on the basic principles behind molecular biology techniques, their applications, related techniques, and current developments in the field.
The second half will be dedicated solely to hands-on training in various molecular biology techniques, which includes
- gene cloning technology
- gene expression and analysis
- protein purification
- Western blotting
- SDS-PAGE electrophoresis
- bioinformatics analysis
- Real-Time PCR

FACULTY
The sessions will be conducted by senior, experienced molecular biologists from the industry and academia.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
This workshop is intended for personnel with relevant scientific background seeking basic and advanced level molecular biology training. The course should be informative for personnel involved in molecular biology or biotechnological research, supervision, or manufacture and other technical operations. It should also be beneficial to academicians or researchers who wish to update themselves with the current practices and developments in the field.

- Registration deadline is May 10, 2011
- Fee includes tuition, workshop material, lunch and tea/coffee. It does not include dinner and accommodation.
- Enrollment is restricted to 30 participants and therefore applications will be accepted on a first come first served basis.
- Cancellations will not be accepted less than 15 days prior to the start of the workshop, but substitutions may be made at any time.
- Participants are advised to make their own travel and stay arrangements.
- At the end of the course a certificate will be given to all the participants.
- Registration over telephone / e-mail will not be accepted without receipt of fees.
