Driven by new enterprise and innovation in recent years, the sector is on an accelerated growth path and is rapidly attaining critical mass in terms of skills and capabilities. The Indian biotechnology sector comprises over 325 companies generating revenues of about US$ 2 billion that are estimated to reach US$ 7 billion by 2011”.

About our Institute : Rajarshi Shahu College is a multidisciplinary institute established in 1970. It is governed by Shiv Chhatrapati Shikshan Sanstha Latur and is affiliated to Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University, Nanded. The college is well known for its shahu pattern which means excellence in education. The college is reaccredited with A grade by NAAC securing top 12^th position nationwide (CGPA Grade 3.38), also the college has awarded with CPE ( College with Potential for Excellence) by University Grants Commission and best college award by Parent University. College is also known for its LATUR PATTERN.

About the Department: The department offers UG and PG course in biotechnology, Career Oriented Course in Plant Tissue Culture and Certificate course in Bioinformatics. Department has received grants under BSR scheme from UGC New Delhi.

Biotechnology sector is actively promoting advanced research in India. The department is thriving on the excellent research faculty, facility and resources; aiming to become amongst the nation's top research and learning Centers. The Centre conducts national, international conferences and workshops for promoting new enthusiasm amongst young scientists. The department of biotechnology in association of parent institute Rajarshi Shahu College, Latur is in process of having collaboration with NCL,Pune and three international collaborations with well known institutes like Salt Lake Community College, Utawa State, USA, Illinois University, Urbana Champaign, USA, and Lille1 University, France. 

The mission statement of the Centre is to engage in cutting edge research, training, education and offer help to the community in the field of applied biotechnology human health. The Centre prepares students for productive careers in this versatile, dynamic and evolving discipline. Upon graduation, students will have learned skills in critical thinking, problem solving and communication necessary for success as practicing biotechnologists or in post-graduate studies.

The department has state of the art facility with 12 well equipped laboratories.

Eligibility: B. Sc in any Biological Science

2. Name of course : B Sc Biotechnology ( Three year) ( Fees Rs. 15,492/-)

Eligibility: 12th pass with Science

3. Name of course : Certificate Course in Plant Tissue Culture

Eligibility: B. Sc. (I,II, III) in any Biological Science

4. Name of course : Diploma Course in Bioinformatics

Eligibility: B. Sc in any Biological Science
