About Networking Resource Centre in Biological Sciences (NRCBS) University Grants Commission is creating networking resource centres in various subjects at leading University Departments in India. The major objectives of the centres are to promote collaborative research, to provide access to advanced research facilities and to impart training to young researchers in frontier areas of the respected subjects. UGC has recognized School of Biological Sciences, Madurai Kamaraj University to establish a Networking Resource Centre in Biological Sciences.

UGC-NRCBS, MKU functions as a resource center for training and research collaborations with state-of-the-art infrastructure facilities in Biological Sciences. The activities of the UGC-NRCBS include:

1. Organizing summer and winter schools,

2. Guidance of Ph.D students of other institute on experimental trouble shooting & research methodology,

3. Support for Ph.D students those who are in need of equipment/laboratory facilities and

4. Strengthening collaborative research initiatives in Biological Sciences among universities and research institutes.

Researchers from various parts of the country are trained in the winter/summer schools. The current school on “Recent Trends in Applied Ecology” is the sixteenth school organized by UGC-NRCBS.

About the Winter School The environment is changing in a fast pace at regional scale due to global level climate changes. The bioresources of our country is under severe threat due to these changes. The organisms including human beings are responding to these changes at different magnitude. Hence there is a great need to focus our research attention to understand the ecological aspects of recent changes in the environment. The Winter School on recent trends in Applied Ecology integrates essential disciplines of research including population biology, conservation ecology, carbon sequestration, mathematical and statistical models, climate data analysis and molecular ecology. The workshop will consist of lectures from the experts/scientists on current trends in the selected areas and practical training in research methods with an intention that the participants can apply them in their research programmes.
