DEPT: CR&D – Crop Genetics Research

LOCATION: Hyderabad

JOB PURPOSE  The successful candidate will join the Crop Genetics regulatory science group as a research scientist to establish agricultural entomology capabilities related to regulatory approval of insect tolerant crops.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Works in conjunction with Group Lead to establish project goals consistent with business unit goals.

2. The successful candidate is expected to establish agricultural entomology facilities at DKC including but not limited to rearing of multiple pest species of important crops, screening transgenic plants for bioefficacy designing experiments for field efficacy of transgenic crops.

3. Contribute to designing and establishing Insect Resistance Management strategy for the successful approval of insect resistant crops.

4. Willing to travel all over India to establish/supervise field trials.

5. Conducts experiments adapting procedures as required. Plans new experiments, sometimes in consultation with the Managers. Exercises technical discretion in the design, execution and interpretation of experiments. Summarizes experiments, manages and analyzes data and prepares reports. Maintains or improves efficient daily work place operations.

6. Actively supervises and evaluates Research Associate’s’ performance

7. Remains current on new technology, innovative, and encourage team members to bring information into research activities.

8. Communicates with Research Leadership and collaborators on progress of the project

9. Monitors safe working practice.

Other Duties

1. Accountable for research facilities, equipment and other resources relevant to the project.

2. Ensure support resources are sufficient to met research project goals and develop plans for alternative solutions.

3. May serve on teams appropriate to cross project research initiatives.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE

1. Ph.D. in Agricultural entomology with at least 3 years research experience in economically important crops preferably in an agricultural biotechnology industry.

2. Sound knowledge of regulatory procedure of approval of biotech crops and IRM strategies.

3. Good Knowledge of GH conditions for crop cultivation.

4. Self-motivated, team and goal oriented, take-charge attitude, excellent written and oral communication skills, computer and organizational skills, flexible and not frustrated by changing priorities.

5. Ability to operate in a deadline-driven environment.
