About the Programme
Research is a scientific and systematic search/investigation for correct information on a specific problem and generation of new knowledge.
Research is an academic activity and comprises of defining problems, formulating hypothesis or suggesting solutions, collecting, organising and evaluating data and reaching conclusions. In short, the search for knowledge through objective and systematic method of finding solution to a problem is research. Research can either be applied research or fundamental research.
Applied research aims at finding a solution for an immediate problem facing a society or an industry, whereas fundamental research is mainly concerned with generalisations and with the formulation of a theory.
To be a successful researcher, one's research plan should be systematic, comprehensive and with proper documentation. Also, the research should be of high quality in order to produce knowledge that should go beyond the group participated in the research. Moreover, the results of our study should have suggestion for project implementation. Thus, as researchers, it is imperative to take steps to make their research output to the global community. This can be accomplished by the teacher only when they are exposed to research-led, research oriented and research based training.
The scientific research adds values to teaching and greatly benefits the quality of learning, in turn this will benefit students, academics, Universities and society. To attest this, Tamilnadu State Council for Science and Technology (TNCST) has planned to organize two days orientation programme on Research Activities in Science for College Teachers. This orientation programme will provide an opportunity to young faculty members who are taking up teaching and research as their career. Also, this programme will teach to manage increasingly demanding research, administrative and teaching obligations to provide good quality higher education to the next generation.
