Post doctoral Research Fellow and Junior Research Fellow positions available for a new Darwin Initiative (DEFRA, Govt. of U.K.) funded project: ‘Enhancing the relationship between People and Pollinators in Eastern India’.

Project Coordinators: Dr. Parthiba Basu (CU) & Dr. Barbara Maria Smith (GWCT, UK).

Post doc Research Fellow

The successful candidate will travel extensively, overseeing the work carried out at two field stations (located in Tripura and Orissa). The project description can be found at the http://darwin.defra.gov.uk/project/19024/

Person specification

Ph.D. in Ecology, Botany, Zoology, Environmental Sciences or relevant discipline is essential and a proven interest in plant-animal interactions desirable. Strong analytical skills would be an advantage. Ability to speak English, Bengali and/or Oriya and Hindi is also essential. We are seeking a self-reliant individual able to manage elements of a high profile international project which includes extensive travel and personnel management. It is a full-time 3 year  post.

Junior Research Fellow

Two Junior Research fellows to join the team. One of the positions is reserved for a CSIR NET Fellowship holder. The successful candidates will set-up and carry out long-term monitoring of pollinators at the CPS research station/s in Orissa and Tripura. There will be an opportunity to develop independent research and the successful candidate will be registered for a PhD at the University of Calcutta.

Person specification A M.Sc. in biological science (Istclass) is required. An interest in plant – animal interactions is also desirable. The post will require a self-motivated person who is capable of working under difficult conditions in a relatively isolated area for long periods. Good English and an ability to speak either Bengali or Hindi is essential.
