PhD position in bioinformatics/computational proteomics and genomics:Melbourne, Australia

Applications are invited for a PhD position to work oncomputational proteomics aimed at understanding the molecular mechanisms of cancer. The PhD student will be involved in the development of computational models to analyse genomic and proteomic data. The PhD scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic excellence through the applicant’s curriculum vitae. The PhD scholarship is awarded for up to 3 years and consists of an annual stipend of $23,200 tax free. Applicants may apply for a maximum extension of the PhD scholarship of up to six months, in line with an extension of their primary award. Highly qualified students are encouraged to apply for the position.

Eligibility and qualifications

· The applicant should have a Masters/Honours degree in any field of biology.

· The applicant should have undertaken a research project during their degree.

· Strong computational background with competences in programming (JavaScript, Perl/Python is preferred).

· Familiar with working on UNIX platforms is preferred.

· Good communication skills in English, both written and spoken (IELTS).

· Experience in scientific research/programming is highly desirable.

· Candidates with research publications are highly desirable.

· Bioinformatics degree is preferred.

The appointment will be starting in January/February 2013.
