A Refresher Course on ‘Modern Biotechnology: Concepts and Practice’ for college/university teachers and young researchers, will be held at School of Biotechnology, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai from 15 to 29 May 2013. This Course is aimed at giving the participants a hands-on training on some modern biotechnological techniques including DNA/RNA isolation from various sources, molecular cloning, PCR and RT-PCR. A variety of teaching methods like lectures by eminent scientists, discussion and laboratory work focussing on diverse aspects in biotechnology will facilitate the learning process. This Course is designed to provide the participants necessary knowledge to boost their confidence in handling modern instruments used in the discipline of life sciences and modern biotechnology. Skills gained during this Course will help them effectively fulfill their role as better researchers and teachers. The Course will consist of 2–3 lectures everyday followed by equal duration of practicals as well as hands-on training.

College/university teachers and young researchers from Life Sciences who wish to participate in the Refresher Course may apply through proper channel with the following details: name, date of birth, gender, e-mail, official and residential addresses, telephone numbers, academic qualifications, courses taught, positions held and tenure. Submission of a statement (300 words) indicating the reason for their interest in participation and expectations from the Course should also be sent.

Applications should reach The Course Coordinator before 15 March 2013. Selected candidates will be informed by 25 March 2013. Outstation candidates will be provided accommodation and round trip bus/train fare by the shortest route. Only 25 candidates will be selected on first-cum-first-serve basis.
