Sciences was started in the year 1969 by one of the Doyen of Medical education in the country Sir.Dr. A. Lakshmanasamy Mudaliar. His aim was to develop research in basic medical sciences in the State. The Department of Pharmacology and Environmental Toxicology established in 1976, is involved in the  promotion of academic and research activities in both the disciplines. 

The Department started offering M.Sc., Environmental Toxicology, an Interdisciplinary Course in the year 1982, first of its kind in Asia. The Objective of the Course was for training Manpower in the Field of Environmental Toxicology, the budding branch of Science during that period. Since then active Teaching and research in various areas of Environmental Toxicology such as Principles of Toxicology, aquatic Toxicology, Pesticide Toxicology, Food Toxicology, Industrial toxicology, Forensic toxicology, Drug Toxicology, Reproductive toxicology, Neuro Toxicology, Principles of Marine Bioactive Compounds and related practical courses are being of held. The Curriculum was developed and periodically upgraded to meet the emerging needs in this field of specialization. As a recognition for the research and teaching activities. UGC recognized our Department in the year 2004 for UGC-SAP and the Department of Science and Technology Considered our Department for funding under FIST programme. In the Year 2009 our Department was upgraded to UGC SAP (II)– DRS (PHASE-II) Programme. 

Under this Programme we are Conducting A National Seminar Cum Workshop on “Current Methods in analysis of Toxicants” on 21 and 22 March, 2013.. 

Seminar and Workshop components include
 
1. Analysis of hydrazines in tissue samples.
2. Pesticides analysis by gas chromatography
3. Liquid handling system in toxicological analysis
4. In vitro tissue experiments to assess the effect of Toxicants
5. Elemental analysis by ICP MS

Eligibility for Registration for Workshop:
 
Students, Faculties, Research students and Young scientists can apply through their research Supervisors /HOD with CV.

Registration Fees : Rs.200
Registration closes on 13.3.2013

Since the Seats are Limited, Registration will be by First Cum First Serve Basis.

No TA/DA will be Provided.

Accommodation to be taken care off by the Participants by themselves.
