Walk-in-Interview for Junior Research Fellow/ Project Assistance position
National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute (NABI), Mohali, is an autonomous R&D Institute under Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. The institute carries out cutting edge research at the interface of agricultural biotechnology, bioinformatics, biostatistics, food processing, postharvest technology, and nutritional sciences. Applications are invited for one post of Junior Research Fellow OR Project Assistant under Department of Biotechnology (Govt. of India) sponsored research project entitled “Probiotic mediated gut-flora modulation can protect obesity and type 2 diabetes”.
Project Duration: Appointment will be for 5 years or till end of project, and subjected for annual review for further extension that will be granted based on the research progress and accomplishments.
Fellowship: As per DST guidelines
Eligibility: The applicants must have M.Sc./ M.Tech. in Biochemistry/ Microbiology/ Biotechnology/Molecular Biology/ or any other related biological areas.
Desirable: Applicants having CSIR/ICMR/DBT-JRF fellowships and prior experiences in advanced knowledge of microbial genetics and probiotics will be preferred.
Age Limit: The age limit of applicants for the fellows will be maximum of 30 years (relaxable by 5 years for women and reserved category).
Job description: A junior research fellow OR project assistance position is to study unique metabolic/regulatory pathways specific to obesity and diabetes. The studies will involve finding:
1) mechanisms of probiotic mediated effects on metabolic health;
2) metabolomic characterization of gut flora modulation and its impact on diabetes and obesity. Overall goal is to better understand mechanism(s) of gut flora mediated metabolic derangements and potential of probiotics to treat derangements of these pathways. A walk-in-interview will be held on 05-08-2013 at 11:00 am at the National Institute of Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute (NABI), Mohali.
