About The Conference
Although green revolution of 60’s and 70’s enabled India to achieve self sufficiency in terms of food production, yet there is a continuous challenge before agriculture scientists to further increase agricultural production to feed the growing population of India. Crop productivity must be enhanced with increase in nutritive value of crops to solve the problem of malnutrition prevalent among large number of children and women. Recent developments in the field of ‘OMICS’ technologies hold immense potential to reshape Indian agriculture through ‘Gene Revolution’. The large number of genome sequencing projects have produced massive amount of data in the form of gene and protein sequences which could be processed to discover new candidate genes and molecular markers for their use in crop improvement programs. Functional Genomics and Comparative Genomics based approaches are being utilized for understanding gene functions and for studying simultaneous interaction of various genes governing a complex agronomic trait. Thus with the advent of Science of ‘OMICS’ , it has become possible to enhance precision and speed of plant breeding leading to another green revolution. In this context, Department of Molecular Biology & Genetic Engineering, G.B.P.U.A. & T.
Pantnagar, under the auspices of Society for Plant Biochemistry and Biotechnology, is organizing a ‘National Conference on Science of OMICS for Agricultural Productivity: Future Perspective’ from March 4th - 6th , 2014 to provide a common platform for the leading scientists as well the young researchers, across the country, for discussion on current advancements and future perspectives regarding various applications of OMICS technologies in agriculture.
Conference Themes
The conference will have a mix of plenary and young scientists session. Plenary lectures include key note address and lead lectures from eminent scientists from across the country. Young scientists sessions will include oral/poster presentations from young dynamic scientists identified for each specified theme of the conference. Following ten thematic areas have been proposed for the conference.
