Scientific Officer (Genomics & Molecular Breeding)
ICRISAT seeks applications from Indian nationals for the post of Scientific Officer (Genomics & Molecular Breeding) to be based at Patancheru, Andhra Pradesh, India., to be a part of Centre of Excellence in Genomics (CEG) team, to work on Peanut Foundation (USA) sponsored project entitled “Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) of gene-rich regions associated with target traits for peanut breeding using diverse global germplasm collections”. The position will be based at ICRISAT’s Headquarters in Patancheru, near Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India.
Responsibilities:
- DNA/RNA isolation, Genotyping on different platforms.
- Generation of genotyping data on different genetic materials in groundnut.
- Conducting statistical analysis to study population structure, genetic diversity, genome-wide association studies and other related analysis.
- Compiling and analysis of results and writing reports.
- Maintaining records of primers, enzymes and other chemicals.
Competencies:
- Fluency in English (both written and spoken);
- Proficiency in Computer skills (MS- Office, data analysis);
- Should be a good team player and adaptable to working in multicultural team.
Requirements:
- M.Sc. / M. Tech. in Agricultural /Plant Biotechnology, Genetics, Plant Breeding, Biotechnology, or related discipline.
- Experience in population genetics, genetic diversity, gene pools and association analysis together with good knowledge of biometrics/statistics.
- Ideal candidate should be well aware of latest statistical software and computational tools frequently used in population genetics.
- Experience or knowledge on different genotyping technologies and plant genomics would be added value.
- Preference will be given to candidate with good publication record.
- Working in inter-disciplinary team in multicultural and multinational environment and the ability to interact with partner organizations.
General: The position is initially for a one year period, and may be extended depending on requirement, funding availability and performance of the incumbent. An attractive compensation will be paid to the right candidate.
