Senior Research Fellow (Entomology)

ICRISAT seeks applications from Indian nationals for the post of Senior Research Fellow (Entomology) for IRRI to be based in Hyderabad. This is a nationally recruited position.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with collaborators on their research activities as required, plan the support/manpower needed and set up work  schedule, prepare the material and equipment needed based on research outline
  • Coordinate with collaborating institutes to ensure the timely supply of material needed for the study
  • Conduct screening of rice breeding lines, segregating generations and mapping populations against rice gall midge and brown plant hopper
  •  
  • Contribute to the preparation and compilation of  reports and publications, annual planning and review meetings of the project

Competencies:

  • Strong writing and verbal communication skills in English;
  • Proficiency in Computer skills (MS- Office, data analysis);
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team, adaptable to working in multicultural environment.

Requirements:

  • Master  degree in Entomology 
  • 2 years’ experience in rice research,
  • Experience on rice gall midge and brown plant hopper desirable,
  • 2 years’ experience in project management;
  • Proven technical skills to manage and provide support to multi institutional project

General:
The position is for three years, renewable based on the performance of the incumbent and the Institute's continuing need for the position.  The compensation, terms and conditions will be as per DBT guidelines.

Research Associates (Plant Pathology)

ICRISAT seeks applications from Indian nationals for the position of Research Associates (Plant Pathology) to be based at Patancheru, Andhra Pradesh, India. This is a nationally recruited position.

Responsibilities:

  •   Conduct field and  laboratory  research on screening of breeding lines, segregating generations and mapping populations  for tolerance to rice blast, bacterial blight  to develop new generation rice varieties,
  • Consolidate, evaluate and analyze research data related to progenies developed through introgression of QTLs/genes for different traits into two mega varieties using appropriate advanced statistical tools  independently,  
  • Summarize and validate data, assist in the interpretation of results, make recommendations for further research, assure maintenance of accurate data recording and update database for efficient storage and retrieval of information,
  • Contribute to the preparation of reports, publications, and presentations by summarizing research findings and draft manuscripts for publication in refereed journals, provide inputs to project reports, prepare posters and papers for presentation at local and international conferences.
  • Draft training  protocols, methodology,  identify resource persons, act as resource person for training courses and visitors,
  •    Supervise the work of Research Technicians and/or contract workers, contribute to the professional development of Research Technicians and assist students and trainees

Competencies:

  • Well versed with the advanced plant pathological techniques;
  • Keen analytical skills and ability to conduct, monitor and evaluate experimental trials;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English;
  • Proficiency in the use of various software application and statistical analysis.

Requirements:

  • Ph.D.  in discipline of  Plant Pathology;
  • 2 years’ experience in conducting screening for rice blast and bacterial blight;
  • Experience on working with rice is desirable
