Applications for Ph.D. positions at PPISR
Poornaprajna Institute of Scientific Research (PPISR) was established in 2003 near Bengaluru International Airport on a sprawling area of 32 acres. The institute is Promoted and Managed by Admar Mutt Education Foundation (AMEF). PPISR offers state of the art facilities for young researchers to carry out innovative research in the areas of basic and applied sciences. Three divisions; Materials Science, Biological Sciences and Theoretical Physics with young and eminent researchers are involved in healthy mix of both basic and applied research. The institute is recognized by Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), GOI, New Delhi and Manipal University, Karnataka, as an R & D centre. Faculty members are recognized as PhD guides and the students ( Research Fellows ) will be registered for their PhD degrees at Manipal University, one of the top private Universities in India.
Broad areas of research carried out in the various divisions of PPISR:
1) Materials Science:Heterogeneous Catalysis, Novel Catalytic Materials, Green Chemistry, Biodiesel synthesis, Biomass Conversion, Functional Energy Nanomaterials, Photocatalytic and Photoluminescent materials, Polymeric membranes for separation , Conducting Polymers
2) Biological Sciences:Protein Chemistry, structural and functional biology of immune receptors, structure based drug design, Search for magic molecules with anti-diabetic, anti-oxidant and anti-cancer properties from endophytic fungi.
3) Theoretical Physics:Many-body physics, quantum information theory, condensed matter physics, foundations of Quantum Mechanics, quantum cryptography.
Research Facilities:
Some of the Major Research facilities available at the institute are X-ray diffractometer, UV-Vis, Atomic Absorption and FT-IR Spectrophotometers, Gas Chromatographs, Fully Automated High Pressure Catalytic reactor, Flow reactors, Rotary evaporator, Chemisorption equipment, Photocatalytic reactor, Crush strength Machine, Attrition tester, Electric extruder, Pervaporation Separation Unit, Refractive Index Tester, Phase contrast microscope with camera, Laminar Air flow system, -20ºC freezer, PCR machine, high speed cold centrifuge, cold storage ,Protein crystallization facility, cold-room, Tpye-1 water purification system, ice-flaker etc.
PPISR has many Government sponsored projects to its credit, including DST, Govt. of India (GOI); DBT, GOI; BRNS, GOI ; VGST, Govt. of Karnataka. It also holds industry sponsored projects from GTC, USA, Shell Technology Center and HPCL, Bengaluru.The student life at PPISR is enriched by a range of seminars, meetings and workshops which provides opportunities for our students, to interact with students and faculty from other research institutions and Universities in the country and abroad. Eligibility: Candidates with M Sc. (or M. Tech.) in Physics, Chemistry, Biology or in other interdisciplinary areas such as Materials Science, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Chemical sciences etc. are eligible to apply. Applicants with proven academic record are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to CSIR-JRF /UGC-JRF/ICMR-JRF/DBT-JRF/JEST qualified students or those with DST- INSPIRE fellowship.
