IBP Technical Support Coordinator (Special Project Scientist)

ICRISAT seeks applications from Indian nationals for TWO positions of IBP Technical Support Coordinator, one for Grain Legumes and one for Dryland Cereals in the Special Project Scientist category to be the part of a team of ICRISAT (www.icrisat.org) to work on Integrated Breeding Platform (IBP) Hub in South Asia. The position will be based at ICRISAT’s Headquarters in Patancheru, Hyderabad, India.

The Job:

Responsibilities for these positions include:

  • Act as a point of contact for crop breeders in providing technical backstopping in the use of the IBP-Manager software and associated services (data transfer as well as facilitating access to services such as genotyping)
  • Provide first level support on data analysis methodology and result interpretation in collaboartion with the Biometrician
  • Contribute, in coordination with the Capacity Building Coordinator, to the training and support for broader adoption and use of the IBP-Manager to the overall breeding programme of the institute
  • Gather and process user feedback and new feature requests specially tailored for user needs, and reports these to the IBP Management Team
  • Contribute, together with the Capacity Building Coordinator, to the promotion of IBP and engage with social networks

The Person:

  • Ph.D. or Master’s degree in plant breeding, genetics, plant science, Agricultural/ Plant Biotechnology, Genetics, Molecular Biology or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the use of analytical and bioinformatics tools
  • Demonstrated organisational and communication skills
  • Expertise in database and data management
  • Understanding of molecular marker technologies and experience with their application in crop improvement
  • Ability to work in a team environment in a multicultural setting

The Reward: These positions are initially for a period of two years, and may be extended depending on requirement, funding availability and performance of the incumbent. An attractive all inclusive consolidated remuneration will be paid in Indian Rupees with appropriate medical and accidental insurance coverage.
