International Workshop on “Microbial ecology international workshop 2015: From cultivation to new molecular methods”
Jointly Organized by
ICAR-National Bureau of Agriculturally Important Microorganisms (ICAR-NBAIM), Mau, U.P. & CNR - ISE Institute for Ecosystem Study and MICROB & CO, Italy Venue: ICAR-NBAIM, Kushmaur, Mau, 275103, UP, India
June 29-July 3, 2015
The ICAR-NBAIM, CNR - ISE Institute for Ecosystem Study and MICROB&CO will be conducting an international workshop at ICAR-NBAIM, Kushmaur, Mau. The aim of the workshop is to build capacity in key area of microbial ecology and its enormous potential for application in agriculture and other allied disciplines. Traditional methods of identification rely on phenotypic identification of the microbes using gram staining, cultural and biochemical methods. However, these methods of microbial identification suffer from two major drawbacks. First, they can be used only for organisms which can be cultivated in vitro, second, some strains/isolates exhibit unique biochemical characteristics that do not fit into patterns of any known genus and species. Sophisticated instrumental techniques for the analysis and characterization of microorganisms are becoming more common. Although these newer, often experimental approaches will not replace traditional methods involving cultures, microscopy, and so forth in the immediate future, their development and use will continue to grow. Microorganisms can be identified by analyzing the fatty acid profiles, DNA finger printing of some signature sequences etc. The training program will have the following theme areas to be addressed:
Microbial ecology, current knowledge and future prospective Cultivation and identification of microorganisms
Fingerprinting techniques for characterizing communities
NGS technology to study microbial diversity.
Bioinformatics-driven microbial identification system profiles of known organisms.
Resource persons will be from CNR and MICROB & Co, Italy as well as from our own Indian system. *Participation is limited to 15 participants from India and 20 participants from foreign countries. having eligibility as given below:
Eligibility: Scientists/ Faculty members/researchers/Technical persons from the NARS system, conventional Universities and other institutions funded by CSIR/DST/DBT/ICMR or other private bodies.
