About YU-IOB Center for Systems Biology and Molecular Medicine
Yenepoya University, Mangalore (YU; http://www.yenepoya.edu.in/) and Institute of Bioinformatics (IOB; http://ibioinformatics.org) together established a new research and development centre at Mangalore called “YU-IOB Center for Systems Biology and Molecular Medicine (YU-IOB CSBMM).” The main goal of this center is to foster research in the area of discovery and translation of biomarkers and therapeutic targets for human diseases using advanced cutting –edge OMICs technologies including genomics, proteomics and metabolomics. For this, state-of-the-art mass spectrometry and NextGen sequencing equipment are being procured. YU-IOB CSBMM is located in the close proximity of Yenepoya Research Center, which has a well equipped molecular biology, microbiology, cell culture and animal house facilities. Faculties at YU-IOB CSBMM, Yenepoya Research Center, cliniciansand researchers at Yenepoya Medical College and Yenepoya Dental College are collaborating with other renowned National and International Institutes to investigate human diseases and clinically relevant research.
YU-IOB Center for Systems Biology and Molecular Medicine is looking for highly qualified and talented Junior Research Fellows and independent Senior Research Fellows, who would like to pursue their Ph.D. studentship in the cutting –edge research areas using advanced experimental platforms.
Ph.D. studentship in ‘Mass Spectrometry based proteomics and metabolomics’ (10 positions)
Qualifications:
1) M.Sc. in any field of Life Sciences;
2) Candidates must have secured JRF funding from CSIR-UGC, DBT, ICMR, and DST-INSPIRE
3) Previous experience in a molecular biology or proteomics laboratory is a plus
4) Candidates without JRF funding must have at least two years of research experience in clinical research, molecular biology, HPLC or mass spectrometry, supported by at least one publication in peer reviewed scientific journals.
Selected JRFs and SRFs will be extensively trained in sample prep, and data analysis of proteomic and metabolomic experiments, maintenance of HPLC and mass spectrometry for carrying out proteomic and metabolomic analysis of cancer and other noncommunicable diseases. They will be trained in cutting edge technologies in quantitative proteomics, phosphoproteomics and signaling pathways. Only candidates who can relocate to Mangalore and shuttle between YU-IOB CSBMM and collaborating Institutes need to apply. Candidates should have the ability to work in a team. Interested candidates should e-mail their detailed curriculum vitae to research.csbmm@gmail.com with a subject line as “Ph.D. studentship - Mass Spectrometry based proteomics and metabolomics.” Short listed candidates will be called for an interview.
2. Ph.D. studentship in genomics and proteomics of infectious diseases (10 positions)
Qualifications:
1) M.Sc. in any field of Life Sciences
2) Candidates must have secured JRF funding from CSIR-UGC, DBT, ICMR and DST-INSPIRE
3) Previous experience in a molecular biology or proteomics laboratory is advantageous
4) Candidates without JRF funding must have at least two years of research experience in clinical research, molecular biology, HPLC or mass spectrometry, supported by publication at least one publication in peer reviewed scientific journals.
Selected JRFs and SRFs will be involved in ongoing collaborative research projects of YU-IOB CSBMM investigators on genomic and proteomic analysis to identify potential biomarkers for the development of novel molecular diagnostics. The data will be also used to understand host-pathogen interactions involved in the pathogenesis of various diseases such as tuberculosis, malaria, leishmaniasis, chikungunya, leptospirosis, dengue and fungal infections. These JRFs will spend their time between YU-IOB CSBMM and collaborating laboratories in India. Ph.D. students will be trained in cutting edge technologies including NextGen sequencing and high-resolution mass spectrometry. Only candidates who can relocate to Mangalore and willing to travel to collaborating Institutes need to apply. Interested candidates should e-mail their detailed curriculum vitae to research.csbmm@gmail.com with subject as "Ph.D. studentship – Infectious diseases research” Short listed candidates will be called for an interview.
