Admission to the IISER Kolkata Ph.D. Program for the Autumn Semester 2016
Applications are invited from motivated candidates having M.Sc/MS/ME/M.Tech/MVSc/MSc(Ag) degree (with minimum 55% marks) in:
- Any branch of biological sciences to pursue research in the broad fields of cellular and molecular biology, cancer biology, developmental biology, structural biology, chemical biology, plant molecular biology, behavioral biology and ecology, marine biology, neurobiology, biodiversity, microbiology, biophysics, bioinformatics, biotechnology and theoretical biology. Candidates from agricultural science and nutritional science backgrounds are also welcome to apply.

- Chemistry / physics / statistics / mathematics / computer application / computer science to pursue research in the interdisciplinary research areas as specified in the table below:

Candidates having a valid fellowship like UGC/CSIR-NET JRF, DBT-JRF, ICMR-JRF, INSPIRE or other equivalent fellowships are strongly encouraged to apply.
Candidates having qualified prestigious national level examinations like NET, JGEEBILS, GATE etc. may also apply for IISER Kolkata Institute Fellowship available under the following faculty members provided they fulfill the specific eligibility criteria mentioned below. a) Minimum Essential Qualifications:Masters Degree with minimum 55% marks in any branch of Biological Sciences/Earth Science/Mathematics, and have qualified a national level examination such as GATE, NET-LS, JGEEBILS.Desirable qualifications: Candidates interested in: (1) Tropical Forest Landscape Ecology (GIS/RS skills needed), (2) Plant Physiological Ecology and Climate Change (Tropical Montane Ecosystems) (3) Grassland Ecology, and (4) Tree phylogeography and evolution, and who are keen to carry out field research, statistical analyses, and laboratory work would be highly desirable. - Dr. Sankar Maiti:
a) Minimum Essential Qualification: M.Sc./MD degree with minimum 60% marks in chemistry/ Biochemistry/Nutritional science/ Medical science or related subjects. Candidates must have qualified prestigious national level examinations like JGEEBILS, GATE etc b) Desirable Qualification: Preference will be given to candidates with Laboratory experience. Acquaintance in the area of molecular biology, cell biology and protein biochemistry will be a plus. Good knowledge in chemistry is also desirable. a) Minimum Essential Qualifications: Bachelors and Masters Degree with minimum 65% marks in major of any branch of Biological Science.Candidate must have cleared any national level examination such as NET, GATE, JGEEBLIS etc. b) Desirable qualification: Candidates with relevant laboratory experience in Protein Biochemistry are specially encouraged to apply. Ability to develop and implement plans for complex experiments, good oral and written technical communication, strong problem solving skills, and a commitment to excellence in 1research.
