RGCB Research Assistant/ Interns Openings for Research Projects

Applications are invited from suitable candidates for one position of Research Assistant on project mode at Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology, Thiruvananthapuram. 

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS : Bachelors (B.Sc.) in Life Sciences (Zoology, Botany, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, or allied subjects) or B.Sc. MLT or BSc plus MLT. ADDITIONAL 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS : Working experience in molecular & cell biology, histology and/or tissue processing techniques and computer skills required. 

NOTE: Candidates with any BTech or MSc Degrees are not eligible for this position. 

NATURE OF WORK: Handling of biological tissue and fluid specimens as well as clinical and research data for ongoing research projects in Human Papillomavirus Research Laboratory. 

Examples of work performed: Collection and processing of tissue and fluid samples from clinic and surgical procedures. Annotation of collection characteristics for collected materials. Physical and digital inventory management. Data collection and management from clinical and research sources. Tissue analysis and distribution for research projects. Help to maintain cell lines. Daily laboratory maintenance monitoring laboratory supplies. Nucleic acid isolation. Histology and Immunocytochemistry. 

AGE : Below 28 years as on 16th March, 2018 . 

EMOLUMENT : 12,000/- (consolidated) per month. 

DURATION : 1 year Only those fulfilling the above criteria need apply and will be called for interview. In the event of more than 10 candidates being short-listed by screening the applications, a written test will be conducted before the selection interview and only those who are successful in the written test will be interviewed. 

No TA/ DA will be given for appearing in the interview. As with all project positions at RGCB, the position will be co-terminus with end of the project.

RGCB has a vibrant research program on the role of human papillomaviruses in initiation and progression of human epithelial tumors as well as understanding immune responses to natural viral infection and the quadrivalent HPV vaccine. RGCB is also host to an advanced vaccine efficacy center of the International Agency For Research Against Cancer (IARC), a constituent of the World Health Organization (WHO). 

Vacancies exist for research internships in various research projects including but not exclusive, of the following: 

Metagenomics of HPV infections in the genital tract and oro-pharyngeal region. 
Understanding the B cell biology involved in response to natural infection and HPV vaccine induced immune responses. 
Development of HPV gene editing strategies to develop adjuvant management protocols for invasive cervical carcinoma. 
Elucidation of the biology involved in HPV viral clearance in women with concomitant HIV infection. 

The research internships will be initially in three time blocks of 6 months each (total period of 18 months). There will be a detailed performance review every 6 months. An excellent evaluation report is needed to continue the internship for the next six months. 

Interns will be paid a monthly consolidated stipend of 16,000/- (Rupees Sixteen thousand only). Interns who generate good data and obtain a first author publication will be allowed registration to a PhD degree program if found fulfilling all mandatory relevant RGCB rules and regulations. 

Applicants must have a first class Masters degree in Biotechnology or Life Sciences (including Pharmaceutical Sciences) and should not be more than 25 year of age as on March 20, 2018
