About the Ph.D. programme: Admissions are open for the Ph.D. programme at the Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology (IBAB). The institute has been running this programme since 2009. Fourteen students are currently enrolled and four have successfully completed the programme and received their degrees. The institute has excellent research infrastructure. All the faculty have Ph.D.s and post-doctoral experience in top national or international laboratories. They also have an excellent publication record. The institute is looking for Ph.D. students in the following areas: Structural biology and informatics; Drug discovery; Transcriptomics and biomarker discovery; Data analytics and systems biology; Microbial genomics; Disease genomics; Network biology; Synthetic biology; Epigenetics and image informatics; Mathematical biology; Genomics; Computational biology; Infectious disease biology; Business analytics; and Policy research. 

IBAB is an autonomous young institute based in Electronics City, Bengaluru. The mandate of the institute is to catalyse the growth of the biotech industry through education, research and entrepreneurship programmes. Currently the educational programmes of the institute include an inter-disciplinary masters', a Ph.D. programme, and a recently launched Postgraduate Diploma in Big Data Biology. The institute has a wonderful placement record for its masters’ students, both in industry and in academia, including internationally. The institute has an excellent research infrastructure including sophisticated laboratories and equipment suitable for cutting edge research. The faculty have received funding from various sources and have an impressive publication record. IBAB has an incubation programme for startup companies, and has incubated over 25 companies so far. Several of them have won prestigious awards and some have already been successful in the market place. The institute is located in an 80-acre biotech park, the Bangalore Helix. It’s neighbours are the Bangalore Bioinnovation Centre (BBC), an excellently-equipped incubation centre which is incubating about 40 young life science startups, and the Centre for Human Genetics. Eligibility 

• Candidates must have at least 55% marks in their M.Sc. or equivalent degree in science/engineering/ medicine. Candidates with MBBS or BDS or any undergraduate degree which is of at least 5 years’ duration are also eligible to apply. 
• Provisional admission is possible for candidates awaiting their final result. 
• Candidates with scholarships (UGC/CSIR NET JRF, DBT, ICMR, INSPIRE, ICAR, etc.) are preferred. 
• A limited number of IBAB fellowships will be available. Selection procedure for eligible candidates: • Written test followed by interview, both at IBAB. Other details 
• Candidates supported by internal institutional funds are encouraged to obtain external fellowships after joining the institute. 
• Students receiving an IBAB fellowship will be paid Rs 15,100 per month. • Confirmation as a Ph.D. scholar is subject to the selected candidate successfully completing course requirements and internal assessment. 
• Ph.D. scholars may get an opportunity to work on industrial projects. 
• Ph.D. scholars may avail hostel accommodation on campus.
