We are looking for committed candidates for Junior Research fellow position(s) who are interested in enrolling for their PhDs in the Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine Division, Yenepoya Research Centre, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), Mangalore-575018, Karnataka, India

Title of the SERB-DST funded project: Differentiation of human pluripotent stem cells into functional β islets using bioactive lipids’’

Duration: 2 years

Monthly fellowship: 16,000 pm (Non-NET/LS/GATE qualified candidates), 25,000 pm (GATE/CSIR-LS qualified) candidates

Infrastructural and research support: The institute has excellent infrastructure and resources to support research

Tenure: Position is purely temporary and is co-terminus with the project. Extension without fellowship/ University fellowship support or possible mentorship to obtain subsequent fellowship can be offered to the research fellows enrolled for PhD with due considerations for the completion of the PhD work.  

Essential qualifications: Master degree in any branch of biological sciences with a minimum of 60% marks. Candidates who have qualified any national level eligibility test such as CSIR/DBT/UGC-NET will be preferred. Also, candidates who have prior experience of working in a research laboratory with a minimum of 2 years of hands-on research experience with mammalian cell culture/stem cell culture, flow cytometry and any of the molecular biology techniques need to apply. Ability to work independently, and as a team player; candidates with emotional grit and with research publication(s) will be given preference. An excellent written and verbal communication skill in English is essential

Work requirements: This project requires working in the cell culture and molecular biology laboratory for long hours. This work also requires working during the weekends for few hours for attending to the ongoing cell cultures.

Candidates who need training for handling pluripotent stem cells and all essential skills for this study may need to undergo an initial exhaustive training course in the centre or elsewhere
