Summer Internship for Post-graduate Students 

UGC-STRIDE Integrated Resource Centre for Environment Climate Change and Biodiversity (IRCECCB), Madurai Kamaraj University invites applications from budding first year post-graduate students (from various disciplines of Life Sciences/Sociology/Computer Sciences) of Indian Universities/Colleges/Research Institutions for the forthcoming ‘Summer Internship Programme for the Focal Themes on Environment, Climate change and Biodiversity’ to be held from May to June 2020. 

Over the past decades, world is emerging with severe environmental issues. Globalization, overpopulation, urban ecosystems modifications, land-use and land change patterns, biological invasions and over-exploitation of biodiversity are the key components for such surging environmental issues. The effects of these issues have negatively impacted biodiversity and climate. Millions of people’s livelihoods are already getting affected nationwide due to climate change and environment. Mitigating their impacts, training the man-power in these areas are immensely important. 

This summer internship will provide exposure to the concerned candidates to series of lectures, field works, hands-on training on advanced techniques and experiments, opportunity to performing the research work in the centre and collaborate with national experts on thrust areas of climate, environment and biodiversity to address and bring logical and viable solutions for the local issues faced by the public due to changing climate, environment and biodiversity. 

Candidates are requested to submit an application containing a brief CV, Statement of Purpose (300 words), Research Proposal (1000 words), Letter from Head of the Department to Prof. S. Chandrasekaran, Program Co-ordinator, UGC-STRIDE-IRCECCB, Department of Plant Sciences, School of Biological Sciences, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai 625 021, e-mail: csekaran.biological@mkuniversity.org on or before 30 March 2020. 

Applications sent via e-mail are also accepted, but the duly forwarded hard copy should reach within a week. TA/DA (as per Madurai Kamaraj University norms) and accommodation will be given for outstation participants. The selected candidates are provided with a fellowship of Rs 4000 upon successfully completing the internship programme. The selected candidates will be informed through e-mail on or before second week of April 2020.
