Indo-Italian Cooperation for COVID19 – Webinar – 14 July 2020

Organised on behalf of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Italian Ambassador to India, Vincenzo de Luca, and the Ambassador of India to Italy, Reenat Sandhu, the Webinar on Strategic Cooperation on COVID19 and Bilateral Funding Opportunities will take place on 14 July 2020.

The Secretary, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, Ashutosh Sharma, and the Secretary of SERB, the Science and Engineering Research Board of India will also be present.

The sessions have been coordinated by Lawrence Banks, ICGEB Director-General, and Neelima Mishra, Scientist ‘G’, Science and Engineering Research Board – A statutory body under Government of India, to bring together a compelling line-up of Italian and Indian scientists and policy-makers to explore country perspectives and joint research opportunities in light of the Covid19 pandemic.

The first session will focus on the acute phase of the Covid19 Pandemic, with Alberto Mantovani, Scientific Director “Humanitas Research Hospital” discussing Immune responses and vaccination prospects with Navin Khanna, Translational Health, ICGEB New DelhiAlessandro Marcello, Molecular Virology, ICGEB Trieste will pair with Milan Surjit, Translational Health Science and Technology Institute THSTI, Haryana, to discuss drug repurposing, and Marco Confalonieri, University of Trieste, will discuss the management of Acute Respiratory Failure – ARDS – in Covid19 patients, with Sonu Gandhi, NIAB, Hyderabad.

The subsequent session will pair Italian scientists from SISSAINGM, and Human Technopole, with their counterparts from Department of the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), India, to discuss long-term perspectives and future challenges in predicting COVID dynamics and surveillance, basic research for therapy and prevention and genetics of disease outcome.
