SCIENTIFIC OFFICER (BREEDING INNOVATIONS)

ICRISAT seeks applications from dynamic and highly innovative young Scientists to work in The Accelerated Genetic Gain in Rice Alliance (AGGRi) project is aimed at a globally aligned, modernized, rice breeding ‘community of practice,’ unified by a set of jointly developed standards for making breeding decisions consistent with the demands of regional farmers and other value chain stakeholders. They target to develop high performing National Agricultural Research and Extension Systems (NARES) breeding networks across Africa and South Asia, linked to the centralized, advanced breeding capacity at IRRI.

The project intends to support a select number of NARES rice breeding programs in South Asia and East and Southern Africa to introduce basic but potentially transformational changes that can significantly increase the rates of genetic gain and variety adoption in the target countries. The position is based at IRRI South Asia Hub at ICRISAT, Patancheru and will report to the Senior Development Specialist – Technology Transfer in IRRI. The position is open for Indian nationals only.

Responsibilities:

The Project Associate will work closely with the AGGRi- modernization team to ensure the day-to-day smooth running of the project activities. Coordinate all cross-functional activities of the project at local level.

  • The Project Associate will work on to ensure the day-to-day smooth running of the project and keeping track record.
  • The PA will be responsible for creating appropriate systems for documentation related to modern breeding strategies, improvement and implementation plans of all NARES.
  • PA would also help to create training and workshop materials for NARES.
  • Provide help in distribution of materials, genotyping logistics, bar-code generation, electronic data capture, support in organizing events, training programs, workshops, networking seminars to facilitate national and international partners.
  • Perform any other relevant duties as assigned by supervisor from time to time. 

Qualifications and Experience: 

  • Post Graduate degree in Plant Breeding / Genetics / Molecular Biology / Biotechnology.
  • Skills & Knowledge: Basic knowledge of MS Office programs such as Word and Excel or related software’s.
  • Experience in Molecular markers, phenotyping and project management will be an added advantage.

General:

This is a Locally Recruited Staff (LRS) position for 3 years (36 months) and renewable depending on the performance of the incumbent, funding availability, and also the Institute’s ongoing requirement for the position.
