DBT/Wellcome Trust India Alliance (India Alliance) is pleased to host ‘Scientific Communication and Careers Workshop’, for students and researchers in biomedical and health sciences in North-East India. This workshop is aimed at equipping the participants with essential knowhow of writing scientific manuscripts, ethics of research and communication, and crafting a career in biomedical & health research.

Agenda for the workshop:
Morning session: Basics of Scientific Writing, Structuring your Manuscript, and Ethics in Research and Communication
In this session, participants will learn how to structure an original research article into the IMRaD format, along with tips on effective scientific writing (grammar and language), choosing a journal to publish, organizing bibliographic references and more. This session will elaborate on authorship and conflicts of interest and how important ethics is in performing and reporting your research. To ensure that your paper or grant does not get rejected, it is important to be aware of concepts like unintentional plagiarism, multiple submissions, and salami slicing. This session will also clarify concepts such as data manipulation and fabrication.
Afternoon session: Crafting a Career in Biomedical and Health Research
This session will take the participants through important career-building skills such as building a CV, giving effective presentations, and networking towards building meaningful research collaborations. The session will also feature talks by experts with advice and tips on how to craft a successful career in science.
NOTE: This workshop is only open for students and researchers of biomedical and health sciences in North-East India.
