The Tata Institute for Genetics and society, Centre at InStem (TIGS-CI) is a collaborative institution established to address some of India’s most pressing issues ranging from healthcare to agriculture. TIGS-CI is seeking applications from enthusiastic candidates to join as Research Assistant in the Disease Ecology and Environmental Surveillance team.
Environment surveillance offers a powerful tool for monitoring disease in a population by detecting pathogens, shed by infected individuals. We aim to track the rise and fall in pathogen prevalence and diversity using sewage wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE), soil samples and human infection data. As an initial screening, we aim to start with the most prominent bacterial pathogens and other key infections reported in Bangalore. Successful candidates will be involved in ongoing research on pathogen diversity and distribution in the environment.
Roles and Responsibilities
Research Assistant (RA-07): This position is based in Bangalore but may require significant travelling within Bangalore.
- Processing of samples in BSL2 facility, RNA extractions
- Setting up of PCRs, Library preparation
- Maintenance of records and data analysis

Essential Qualifications/Requirements
- Master’s degree in any branch of biological science with 1-2 years of relevant research experience, preferably with bacterial pathogens.
- Preference will be given to the candidates with experience in molecular biology and NGS library preparation.
- Ability to work both as part of a team, and independently, coupled with excellent communication, organizational and problem-solving skills are required.
Duration:
