The Institute for Stem Cell Science & Regenerative Medicine (www.instem.res.in), Bangalore is an autonomous institute of the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India. DBT-inStem’s mandate is to establish collaborative research programs in the field of stem cell biology, regeneration and repair in development and disease, with translational emphasis. In order to develop strengths in focused areas, research at DBT-inStem is driven through collaborative inter-disciplinary themes, addressing questions that are beyond the scope of a single laboratory.
DBT-inStem shares a campus and research facilities with the Bangalore Life Sciences Cluster (BLiSC). The Institute invites Online Applications from eligible and interested candidates under the following Scientific Cadres on Direct Recruitment failing which by Deputation/ Absorption.
Position Details:
Applications must include a CV and a well-articulated research plan that synergizes with DBT-inStem’s
mandate. (https://www.instem.res.in/research). In particular, applicants interested in working collaboratively
towards developing and/or applying new approaches and cutting-edge technologies that would lead to insight
into fundamental aspects of stem cell biology and/or translation towards regenerative medicine, are preferred.
In addition, the cover letter and research proposal should clearly articulate how the applicant’s research
program will synergize with one or more of the research themes of DBT-inStem
(https://www.instem.res.in/research).

Additional information
DBT-inStem has modern, well-equipped laboratories operating at international standards with excellent
infrastructure support, geared to facilitate frontier stem cell science. State-of-the-art facilities are easily
accessible and are shared with BLiSc members NCBS, CCAMP and TIGS. Investigators can benefit from
the ecosystem, which has well- established mechanisms for interaction with industry, venture capitalists and
other professional bodies. Investigators are also expected to mentor PhD students and postdoctoral fellows
and contribute to teaching and outreach activities of DBT-inStem.
DBT-inStem Investigators are expected to apply for grant funding but in the first instance, generous start-up
support is provided. DBT-inStem Investigators have an excellent track record of securing prestigious
fellowships and substantial extramural funding, which is encouraged.
Compensation/ Pay Details: The post carries the Pay Levels as mentioned against each in the pay structure
of 7th CPC Pay Matrix (Entry Level) and other benefits which include Dearness Allowance, House Rent
Allowance (in lieu of accommodation), Transport Allowance, Children Education Allowance, Leave Travel
Concession, Medical Facilities as per Govt. of India Rules. The selected candidate will be covered under
National Pension System (NPS)
Eligibility Criteria: Essential Educational Qualifications and Experience required for the post are as under:

Essential Qualification & Experience
PhD in life sciences or other Allied Sciences or equivalent with 8 years
R & D experience including PhD, demonstrated by strong publications
and successful funding of competitive extramural grants.
Should be an outstanding scientist with a strong and exceptional
research record with independent discovery research of a high order and
be able to connect with the collaborative/thematic research of DBTinStem.
Experience for Deputation:
Scientists from Central/State Governments, Research Institutes,
Autonomous Bodies etc.
(i) Holding analogous post on regular basis in parent Department or
(ii) With 4 years’ service in Level 12 or equivalent in the parent cadre/
Department and possess the essential qualification & experience as
mentioned above.
Fellow-E/
Scientist-D
(Pay Level-12)
Essential Qualification & Experience
Masters in Life Sciences/Medicine or equivalent, with 5 years’
experience.
Should show promise to establish an independent lab that addresses
important questions in the broad field of stem cell biology and/or
technology and relate this to a focused research theme at DBT-inStem.
Desirable: PhD in Life Sciences or other Allied Sciences. Five years
of previous experience relevant to statutory and regulatory
requirements in a biomedical research environment
Experience for Deputation:
Scientists from Central/State Governments, Research Institutes
Autonomous Bodies etc.
(i) Holding analogous post on regular basis in parent Department
or
(ii) With 4 years’ service in Level- 11 or equivalent in the parent
cadre/ Department and possess the essential qualification & experience
