Position required: Senior Laboratory Technician/Laboratory Technician

subsequent years

Brief about Project : Diagnostic operations – Leprosy and Tuberculosis

Job Description:
• Perform laboratory tests including culture and drug susceptibility testing (DST), as well as molecular detection of drug resistance.
• Manufacture panel testing slides for External Quality Assessment (EQA) of sputum smear microscopy.
• Assist the Microbiologist/Biotechnologist during on-site evaluation visits.
• Facilitate laboratory training programs.
• Prepare culture or DNA banks and conduct proficiency testing and retesting exercises for all participating laboratories for Leprosy and Tuberculosis.
• Monitor laboratory performance and compile data for analysis by Microbiologists/Biotechnologists.
• Maintain laboratory equipment and perform periodic calibration.
• Perform data entry in NIKSHAY/Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
• Listing of Idents for purchasing the Laboratory consumables.
• Carry out any other tasks assigned as per the program needs.

Technical /Area of Expertise: Culture and DST, DNA- PCR.

Requirements:

Experience (In Yrs and Months):

Total: 1-3 years Relevant: 1 year

Education qualification required: MSc., Microbiology/Biotechnology/Biochemistry with or without DMLT, experience in TB bacteriology (Senior Laboratory Technician)

BSc., Microbiology/Biotechnology/Biochemistry/Medical Lab Technology with experience in TB bacteriology (Laboratory Technician)

Skills required:

Primary: Nucleic acid extraction, PCR, Sequencing analysis, TB culture and DST (Liquid, Solid methods and LPA).

Duration of project/ : Initially for a period of 12 months, with the possibility of renewal for up to  36 months based on performance 

Location : LEPRA- BPHRC, Hyderabad 

Brief about Project : Leprosy – ENL  Identification of potential biomarkers using neutrophil derived miRNA for ENL in leprosy  

Funding agency : Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India (ANRF) 

Job Description: 

 Assist in clinical sample collection (blood) from leprosy patients, including ENL cases and controls, under ethical guidelines. 
 Perform neutrophil isolation, flow cytometry-based immunophenotyping, and RNA extraction from neutrophils. 
 Conducting miRNA profiling using next-generation sequencing (NGS) platforms. 
 Perform qPCR validation of differentially expressed miRNAs in ENL patients. 
 Maintain detailed lab records and assist in data entry, analysis, and report preparation. 
 Coordinate with clinicians, patients, and other project staff for smooth sample and data collection. 
 Conduct literature review and support manuscript/report writing. 
 Ensure compliance with biosafety and ethical standards throughout the project. 
 Ability and inclination to travel to project sites if required. 
 Any other work assigned by the Principal Investigator.  

Technical /Area of Expertise: Microbiology, Cell culture & Molecular biology Education qualification required: MSc Microbiology/Biotechnology/Life Science with relevant experience. 

Preference may be given to relevant experience candidates with relevant publications 

Age (35 years), relaxation as per Govt. norms as applicable 

Salary Range : 37,000 + HRA for (CSIR- NET, GATE), Non – NET candidates 30,000 + HRA as  applicable as per the DST, Govt. of India (ANRF/OM/N-01/2024).
