A PhD position is open in the laboratory headed by Dr. Anil Kumar Verma, Assistant Professor at the Department of Microbiology, Sikkim University (Dr. Anil Kumar Verma).
The laboratoy focuses on experimentally addressing fundamental problems in Carbohydrate Active Enzyme based degradation of Lignocellulose. The reseach lab works on different aspect of industrially valuable microbial enzymes/ novel strain, their structure functional relationship, molecular cloning and site-directed mutagenesis for enhancing the efficiency. State-of-the art and advanced methodologies are applied in a healthy professional research environment.
Eligibility
i. A candidate who have been declared eligible in Category A/ Category B/ Category C in UGC-NET or equivalent examinations with a two-year (4 Semester) Master’s programme (after three/four-year Bachelor’s programme) in relevant / allied subjects with at least 55% marks in aggregate (50% marks or equivalent grade for SC, ST, OBC (NC Central List), DA & EWS). OR
A candidate who have been declared eligible in Category A/ Category B/ Category C in UGC-NET or equivalent examinations with one-year (2 semester) Master’s programme (after four-year Bachelor’s programme under NEP-2020) in relevant / allied subjects with at least 55% marks in aggregate / equivalent grade (50% marks or equivalent grade for SC, ST, OBC (NC-Central List), DA & EWS) OR
A candidate who has been declared eligible in Category A/ Category B/ Category C in UGC-NET or equivalent examinations with a four-year (8 Semesters) Bachelor’s Degree with Research with a minimum CGPA of 7.5 (75 %) in a point scale.
ii. Candidates with qualifications like CSIR -NET / GATE / CEED/ ICMR-NET / DBT-NET / ICAR-NET etc. will be treated at par with the UGC NET for admission.
iii. A candidate with a two-year (4 Semester) Master’s programme (after three / four years bachelor programme under NEP-2020) in the subjects in which UGC-NET is not conducted with at least 55% marks in aggregate / equivalent grade (50% marks or equivalent grade for SC, ST, OBC (NC-Central List), DA & EWS).
iv. Any international candidate holding a Master’s Degree (under 3+2 scheme) with at least 55% marks in aggregate / equivalent grade in relevant subject from a foreign educational institution accredited by an approved Assessment and Accreditation Agency established or incorporated under a law in its home country. The qualification requirements must be met by the deadline for applications.
Note: Candidates without NET score may also apply online and will appear Entrance Test on 14th July, 2026 followed by interview against the vacant seats. Selection The candidates will be assessed based on their knowledge in the relevant field of research, previous experience/dissertation and grades, and personal interview.
