RECRUITMENT OF JUNIOR RESEARCH FELLOWS (JRFs)
Applications are invited from eligible Indian Nationals for the appointment of Junior Research Fellows (JRFs)
in the Botanical Survey of India (BSI).
Number of Positions: 6 (Six)
Place of Work: Any Regional Centre/Office of BSI located at Itanagar, Shillong, Gangtok, Howrah, Kolkata,
Prayagraj, Noida, Dehradun, Jodhpur, Pune, Hyderabad, Vijaya Puram, Coimbatore, or Solan (Yercaud).
Appointed JRFs may be transferred or shifted from their initial place of posting to any other BSI office based on
organizational requirements.
Fellowship Amount: Selected candidates will receive a consolidated monthly fellowship of ₹37,000 for the first
two years, which enhanced to ₹42,000 from the third year onwards. HRA is admissible as per central rules. The
initial appointment is strictly temporary for two years and extendable by one year based on satisfactory
performance and approval by the Director, BSI. Fellows are not entitled to any other benefits during or after
their tenure. This fellowship is purely contractual and confers no right to regularization or absorption in BSI.
Duration of Fellowship (2+1+2 years): The initial appointment is for two years as a Junior Research Fellow
(JRF). Following a performance assessment, suitable candidates will be promoted to Senior Research Fellow
(SRF) for a third year; otherwise, the fellowship may be terminated. The SRF tenure may be extended for an
additional two years, subject to satisfactory progress and institutional requirements.
Essential Qualification: Applicants must possess a Master’s degree (M.Sc.) in Botany from a UGC-recognized
university with at least 55% aggregate marks at the time of submitting the application
Desirable Qualification: Preference will be given to candidates possessing a M.Sc. in Botany with
specialization in Plant Taxonomy or Plant Systematics (any plant group), working knowledge of computers,
strong analytical abilities, and proficient technical writing skills. Candidates who have qualified for the NET
(CSIR-JRF) are exempted from the written examination. However, they must apply, select their preferred
regional centres, and appear for the interview if shortlisted.
Age Limit: The upper age limit is 28 years as on the last date of application submission. This limit is relaxed by
up to 5 years for SC, ST, Physically Handicapped (PH), and female applicants, and by up to 3 years for OBC
(Non-Creamy Layer) candidates.
Examination Fees: The non-refundable examination fee is ₹400 for General candidates, ₹200 for OBC
applicants, and ₹100 for SC/ST/PH applicants. Fees must be paid exclusively online through the Bharatkosh
portal (http://bharatkosh.gov.in). Step-by-step payment instructions are detailed in Annexure-I.
Instruction of Submission: Hard and soft copy submission:
i. Candidates must submit their completed application forms, BharatKosh receipts, research papers and
prescribed documents in both hard and soft formats on or before 09.08.2026.
ii. Hard copies must be sent by Registered Post to The Scientist-in-Charge, Technical Section, BSI-Hqrs., 3rd
MSO Building, CGO Complex, F-Wing, DF Block, Salt Lake City, Kolkata - 700064.
iii. Soft copies must be compiled into a single PDF file and emailed to bsi.jrf.2026@gmail.com with the file
named strictly as BSI _JRF_ 2026_FN_LN (where FN and LN represent the applicant's first and last name,
respectively).
Online Submission of Proforma template (Mandatory):
In addition to the hard and soft copies, candidates must complete and submit the online application via
the Google Form link provided on the official website (www.bsi.gov.in). The absolute deadline for receipt of
complete applications in all prescribed formats is 09.08.2026. Any application received after this date will not
be considered.
