Advertisement for Recruitment of 6 Field Attendant (FA) under NMHS Funded
Project
Applications are invited for the posts of 6 Field Attendant (FA) (details are given in Annexure-1)
purely on a temporary basis (Indian nationals only), subject to availability of funds under the project.
The positions being offered are strictly temporary and co-terminus with the project.
PROJECT NAME: "Project Jeevan Beej: National Seed Bank for the Conservation of India's
Endemic and Threatened Flora of Himalayan Region"

PLACE OF WORK
The selected candidates will be posted at the following BSI locations:
• BGIR, Noida, Uttar Pradesh – 2 positions
• NRC, Dehradun Regional Centre –1 FA
• ERC, Shillong Regional Centre –1 FA
• APRC, Itanagar Regional Centre –1 FA
• Solan (HAWRC) Regional Centre –1 FA
Selected candidates will be required to undertake extensive field travel to various Himalayan regions
including Uttarakhand, Sikkim, North Bengal, Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and other
locations as per project needs. Travel assignments may involve extensive field trips to remote localities
of the Himalayan region.
PROJECT OBJECTIVES
The selected candidates are expected to contribute to the following project objectives:
1. Conserve and secure seeds of India's endemic and IUCN Red-listed plant species through systematic
collection, documentation, and long-term storage.
2. Develop a comprehensive, geo-referenced Seed Atlas mapping the distribution, ecological traits, and
conservation status of collected species.
3. Integrate and strengthen community seed banks by linking grassroots conservation efforts with
national infrastructure.
4. Facilitate research, ecological restoration, and reintroduction of threatened species by providing
high-quality, viable seeds to scientific institutions.
5. Empower local communities, farmers, and women's groups through training and capacity-building
programs in seed collection, storage, and sustainable use.
6. Ensure food and nutritional security by safeguarding plant genetic resources critical for climate
resilience and sustainable agriculture.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The selected candidates will be expected to:
• Conduct extensive field surveys in Himalayan regions for seed collection of endemic and threatened
plant species
• Undertake seed processing, testing, documentation, and long-term storage activities
• Work on curation of biodiversity information from literature and herbarium specimens
• Perform seed viability testing, germination trials, and quality assessment
• Contribute to the development of a geo-referenced Seed Atlas using GIS tools
• Assist in training programs and capacity-building activities for community seed banks
• Prepare technical reports, research articles, and project documentation
• Maintain accurate databases and records of seed collections
• Undertake any other tasks assigned by the Project Investigator (PI)
Candidates with sound knowledge in plant taxonomy, seed biology, seed conservation techniques,
herbarium preparation, fieldwork, GIS tools, and database management will be preferred.
Therefore, candidates having all the above criteria and willing to travel extensively to different parts
of the Himalayan region are encouraged to apply.
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
1. Candidates are requested to ensure their eligibility with respect to age, discipline, qualifications, etc.,
and then fill the application form as per Annexure-2.
2. The interview for candidate selection will be conducted in Offline/Online Mode as applicable at the
office of the Botanic Garden of Indian Republic (BGIR), Noida, Uttar Pradesh. The date and time
of the interview will be communicated separately to the shortlisted candidates.
3. Candidates have to fill the application as in Annexure-2 and submit it to the Project Investigator (PI),
NMHS Project, Botanical Survey of India through email (nmhsseedbank_bgir@yahoo.com) in
single pdf containing all documents.
4. Applications for all positions will be screened, and only shortlisted candidates will be called for the
interview. Selection will be done based on performance in the interview and merit. Mere possession
of the prescribed qualifications does not guarantee an interview call or selection of the candidate. Any
attempt to conceal, misrepresent, or canvass facts will result in disqualification.
5. Selected candidates will be posted at any of the five regional centers as per project requirements and
will need to join immediately.

7. Shortlisted candidates must bring filled application forms and self-attested copies of documents at the
time of interview for verification.
8. No TA/DA will be provided for attending the interview.
9. Incomplete or misrepresented applications will not be considered and will be rejected.
10. The candidates will not have the right to claim a permanent position in BSI after completion of the
project. The positions being offered are strictly temporary and co-terminus with the project.
11. Candidates currently employed under any contractual obligations to serve Central/State
Government/any other Public Sector Undertaking or Autonomous body must provide a 'No Objection
Certificate' at the time of interview from their present employer.
12. No correspondence will be entertained either in regard to the call for interview and/or selection.
Canvassing in any form will lead to disqualification. BSI reserves the right not to fill any position, if
it so decides.
13. The candidates are required to reach the interview venue at least one hour before the scheduled time
of the interview. Late comers will not be entertained.
14. Selected candidates may avail leaves as applicable to JPF/SPF working in BSI.
15. The Director, Botanical Survey of India reserves the right to decrease the number of posts in different
categories and cancellation of the advertisement without assigning any reason.

WORK DESCRIPTION
Field Attendant (FA):
The candidates will be required to assist in field surveys and seed collection expeditions in the Himalayan
region, support in plant specimen collection and proper handling of seed materials, assist in preparation and
maintenance of herbarium specimens, help in seed cleaning, sorting, and preliminary processing activities,
maintain field equipment and survey instruments, assist in GPS data recording and field documentation,
support in transportation and storage of collected specimens and seeds, coordinate with local communities and
guides during field visits, assist in setting up field camps and logistics arrangements, maintain field diaries and
assist in basic data entry, and undertake any other field-related tasks assigned by the PI or senior team members.
Field Attendants should be physically fit for extensive travel in difficult terrain and willing to work in remote
Himalayan locations under challenging conditions.
