IISER Pune Yeast Genetics Project Associate Openings

ADVERTISEMENT NO.: 53/2026

The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Pune is a premier institute dedicated to research and teaching in the basic sciences. It was established in 2006 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (renamed Ministry of Education in August 2020). In 2012, IISER Pune was declared as an Institute of National Importance by an Act of Parliament.

Institute invites applications from Indian nationals for the following post purely on temporary and contractual basis:

Post No. - 1 Project Associate-I

Minimum educational Qualification M.Sc. / B. Tech in Life sciences / Biotechnology / Bioengineering / Chemistry or related areas with minimum 70% marks / equivalent grade. Additional percentage cut-off will be applied during the screening process, if needed.

Preference Candidates having following will be preferred –

1. Prior hands-on experience in yeast genetics, molecular biology, cell biology and biochemistry techniques are a must.
2. Hands-on experience with budding yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) — strain construction, genetic crosses, transformations and standard yeast assays.
3. Wet lab experience during Master’s thesis is a must. 4. Experience of having handled/completed multiple independent projects.
5. Prior experience with fluorescence microscopy (widefield/confocal, live-cell imaging) and quantitative image analysis will be strongly preferred; familiarity with condensate biology, proteostasis or cellular aging is an advantage.
6. Candidates with a valid NET/GATE qualification.

Job requirement Incumbent is expected to conduct research investigating how the material state of the nucleolus and associated biomolecular condensates change with cellular aging, and how this affects ribosome biogenesis and protein quality control in budding yeast.

Consolidated emoluments per month Rs. 30,000 + 30% House Rent Allowance. Rs. 37,000 + 30% House Rent Allowance for candidate having valid CSIR-NET / GATE / DBT - JRF / any other National Level Test conducted by Central Government Departments and their agencies OR equivalent scorecard.

Tenure of the appointment Initially for a period of 6 months extendable for further period subject to continuation of the project and satisfactory performance of the incumbent.

Age limit as on last date of submission of application. Not more than 35 years
