Applications are invited for the position of Junior Research Fellow (JRF) in the Department of Biological
Sciences (DBS), Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Kolkata (IISER Kolkata).
Junior Research Fellow (JRF): One position
Research Area: Genomics and computational analysis of biological datasets, with a focus on RNA
sequencing and single-cell RNA sequencing
Funding Source: Project funding
Remuneration: Rs. 37000/month
Principal Investigator: Dr. Sumit Sen Santara, Department of Biological Sciences, IISER Kolkata
Tenure: One year, extendable based on research progress and performance, subject to availability of
project funds
Basic Eligibility Criteria: MSc/M.Tech./equivalent degree in Bioinformatics, Biotechnology,
Computational Biology, Life Sciences, or a related discipline. Candidates with relevant research
experience in genomic data analysis may also be considered.
Desirable Qualification:
Prior research/project experience in genomic data analysis, particularly RNA sequencing (RNA-seq)
data analysis.
Familiarity with single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) data processing and analysis would be highly
desirable.
Working knowledge of bioinformatics tools and computational pipelines for sequence data analysis,
including basic quality control, read processing, alignment/mapping, quantification, and downstream
analysis.
Familiarity with R and/or Python for biological data analysis and visualization.
Basic understanding of differential gene expression analysis, pathway enrichment analysis, and
interpretation of transcriptomic datasets.
Experience with Linux/Unix command-line environments, shell scripting, or high-performance
computing would be an advantage.
Candidates with relevant research experience and a strong interest in genomics, transcriptomics, and
single-cell biology are encouraged to apply.

Conditions: No TA/DA will be provided to the candidate for the interview. The decision of the selection
committee will be final. The selected candidate may be terminated with appropriate notice before
completion of the tenure if performance is found to be unsatisfactory. The requirements of minimum
qualification and/or experience may be relaxed in the case of candidates with outstanding credentials, as
per applicable rules.
