National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), funded by the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India, has been set up to excel in teaching and research in different areas of basic sciences. NISER aims to provide an excellent academic ambience and support to faculty members to work in frontier areas of research in both theoretical and experimental fields of basic sciences. It also imparts high quality undergraduate and graduate education through a rigorous and well-planned course structure aimed at creating strong foundations in basic sciences among its students. With
about 70 faculty, 100 PhD students and 330 integrated MSc students, NISER is vibrant with academic activities.
NISER invites applications for faculty positions in different Schools (at the level of Assistant Professor, Reader-F and Associate Professor) from candidates possessing excellent academic records and research experience in following fields.
School of Biological Sciences
Evolutionary Biology
Ecology
School of Chemical Sciences
Synthetic Organic Chemistry- with emphasis on total synthesis
Organic Soft Materials & Polymers
Catalysis, Electrochemisty, Surface & Interfacial chemistry
Nano Sciences
School of Mathematical Sciences
All the core areas of mathematics with emphasis on Algebra and Topology.
School of Physical Sciences
High Energy Physics (phenomenology/theory)
Condensed Matter Theory: Bio-physics, Chaos and Non-linear dynamics, Many body
physics.
Condensed Matter Experiment - Soft matter with interface to biology, Non-linear
dynamics, Spectroscopy and Crystallography.
Positions
1. Assistant Professor
Pay Band-3: Rs. 15,600 - 39,100 Grade Pay- Rs. 7,600/- Initial Basic Pay: 29,500/-
2. Reader F
Pay Band-4: Rs. 37,400 - 67,000 Grade Pay- 8,700/-Initial Basic Pay: 46,100/-
3. Associate Professor
Pay Band-4: Rs 37,400 – 67,000 Grade Pay- 8,900/- Initial Basic Pay: 49,100/-
NISER has provision for advance increments maximum up to 5 to the selected candidates
depending upon their post doctoral experience and quality of publications. Accordingly,
the above initial basic pay may increase.
Essential Educational Qualification:
For all the posts a Ph.D. degree in relevant discipline from a reputed and recognized University or Institute with a very good academic record.
Experience and Other Requirements:
A) Assistant Professor
Candidate should have around three years of postdoctoral research/teaching experience after Ph.D. with high quality publications in high impact journals. Candidates should have interest and ability to teach courses in Integrated M.Sc. programme and in the Ph.D. programme.
B) Reader-F
Candidates should have at least five years of postdoctoral research/teaching experience with high quality publications in high impact journals. Candidates should have demonstrated the capability to lead independent research programs.
Candidates should have interest and ability to teach courses in Integrated M.Sc. programme and in the Ph.D. programme. It is desirable that that candidates applying for this position should have some experience in supervising graduate and undergraduate students.
C) Associate Professor
Candidate should have at least eight years of post doctoral research/teaching experience with high quality publications in high impact journals. Candidates should have a demonstrated record of having successfully led independent research programs and have scholarly achievement in the respective field of research.
Candidates should have interest and ability to teach courses in Integrated M.Sc. programme and in the Ph.D. programme. It is expected that candidates applying for this position should have experience of guiding several Ph.D and undergraduate students.
Other Benefits For Faculty Members:
In addition to the basic salary, NISER faculty member are entitled to the
allowances as admissible to Central Government Employees stationed at Bhubaneswar.
The Performance Related Incentive Scheme (PRIS) of DAE may be applicable to NISER (Subject to orders from DAE), under which, there is a provision for monthly incentive of 20% of the basic pay.
NISER Faculty are eligible for DAE's update allowance, which is currently Rs. 10,000 to Rs.30,000 per year depending on the scale of pay.
Provision of Joining T.A.:
a. The candidates who are abroad and joining NISER from there only shall be paid Joining T.A. maximum up to Rs.90000/-subject to submission/production of original receipts.
b. Candidates who are in Government service and joining NISER shall be paid Joining T. A. as per Government of India rule.
c. Candidates joining NISER neither from abroad nor from Government service shall also be considered for joining T.A. on case to case basis subject to the approval by the Board of Governors, NISER.
NISER will provide housing facilities in its permanent campus at Jatni with modern amenities from the middle of 2015.
Reimbursement of telephone charges on monthly basis as per Institute rule. NISER is also providing financial support to the faculty members for attending National, International Conferences, Seminars, Workshops, etc. as per Institute norms.
The age of superannuation of faculty members of NISER is 65 years. NISER Faculty members are covered under New Pension Scheme as notified by the Government of India.
