Opportunity to do PhD @CCNSB@IIIT-Hyderabad

Open Positions: We are looking to admit two PhD students for next semester starting first week of August 2015. Those interested are encouraged to send their applications by email.

Research areas:

(i) Reaction mechanisms of gold/platinum nanoparticle mediated chemical reactions;

(ii) Investigation of chemical/biological processes such as protein folding using molecular dynamics simulations;

(iii) Computer aided drug design;

(iv) Your choice (within our research interests)!!!

Opportunities to work in a University located in Europe/Japan/US during PhD with the host scientist as one of the PhD advisors available. Opportunities also exist for those who are interested in performing both experiments (organic chemistry/ biochemistry) and theory.

Current research interests: See “Research” page and the list of publications. Write to us if you have any questions.

Eligibility: Masters in Science/Technology in Chemistry/Bioinformatics/Biotechnology - Those who have completed or in their final year of the program can apply. Prior experience of using computational tools is desirable but not essential. Course work during PhD will adequately prepare the candidates to undertake research in this area. Candidates who have passed UGC-CSIR/BINC/similar examinations are particularly encouraged to apply.

Facilities: The lab is equipped with excellent computational facilities, and provides very good research environment.

Support: Tuition support is provided to all research students. If the selected student does not have a research fellowship (for eg. CSIR), RAship may be provided as per the Institute norms. Opportunities to work as a Teaching Assistant and to assist with teaching are available.

About CCNSB: Center for Computational Natural Sciences and Bioinformatics (CCNSB) is a interdisciplinary research center with researchers working in the ares of computational chemistry, computational biology, bioinformatics, and chemical physics. We have about 20 PhD and 20 MS (by research) students in the center working in these areas. Our past PhD students are working as postdoctoral fellows in well known laboratories in the field, some of them have taken faculty positions in India, and other research students are working in industry.

About IIIT Hyderabad: International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Hyderabad is a not-for-profit public-private-partnership university with excellence in research as its main goal. PhD is offered in several areas including computational natural sciences (physics/chemistry/biology) and bioinformatics. More about the institute may be found here: http://iiit.ac.in/

How to apply?

Send a cover letter and detailed curriculum vitae with contacts of three references (PDF file whose size is less than 1 MB) by email (deva[AT]iiit.ac.in) by 10th June 2015. All applications will be acknowledged within a week (if you do not hear from us, please send a reminder email). Shortlisted applicants will be interviewed. All communications will be over email.

Address: Dr. U. Deva Priyakumar, Associate Professor, Center for Computational Natural Sciences and Bioinformatics, International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad - 500 032
