The Department of Life Sciences in the School of Natural Sciences (SNS) at Shiv Nadar University (SNU) invites applications for admission in its Ph.D. program starting in January 2016. Research in the Department of Life Sciences is multifaceted with major focus in the areas of Malaria, Vascular Biology, Bioinformatics, Cancer Biology, Virology, Bacterial Genomics, Protein Homeostasis, Neurobiology and Leishmaniasis. The Life Sciences labs are well equipped with state-of-the-art research facilities and equipment like FACS ARIA III, Real Time PCR (ABI), Fluorescent Microscope, Mammalian cell culture (BSL-2) facility and central instrumentation facility having LCMS, XRD, AFM, Raman spectrometer, Photoluminescence etc. Computational facilities at SNS include a high performance cluster (“Magus”) consisting of 63 compute nodes (1008 cores), 30 TF theoretical peak performance, 8 nodes with high-end CPUs and memory for application specific needs. Additionally, there are several stand-alone Linux workstations that are being used for teaching and research purpose and the software required for bioinformatics. The Department of Life Sciences offers a vibrant research environment and an interactive platform for its Ph.D. & B.Sc.(Research) students and the faculty.

Many of our research projects are interdisciplinary in nature, involving collaborations across multiple Departments in the School of Natural Sciences, as well as other Schools and research Centers of the University.

Eligibility: A candidate should have (or expect to have by January 2016), an M.Sc. in any branch of Life Sciences, with a minimum of 60% marks or an equivalent grade point. Short-listed candidates will be required to demonstrate their knowledge through an on-site written test and interview. Candidates who have qualified for CSIR-UGC NET-JRF, DBT-JRF, ICMR-JRF or any other Government research fellowship are preferred, and will be exempted from the written test but they will have to undertake the interview.

Financial Assistance: All candidates admitted to the Ph.D. program are eligible for teaching/research assistantships of Rs.35,000 per month along with tuition and hostel fee waiver. The assistantship is subject to satisfactory performance in the program evaluated continuously, and compliance with all University regulations. Ref: PhD-BIO-2016(for January Intake)
