CONTEMPORARY ECOLOGICAL ISSUES

Objectives of the Course
The major objective of the course is to train young researchers and mid-career scientists from all over the nation to tackle various emerging ecological issues of our country.
Nature of the course
Ecological issues are dynamic; the present age of changes factored by pollution, rapid urbanization, decline of pollinators, exotic species, over exploitation of bioresources and climate change have been putting stress on the ecosystem processes. This winter school on “Contemporary Ecological Issues” will focus on assessing the emerging threats and provide tools and information to mitigate these issues. This school integrates various aspects of ecology including plantmosquito interactions, morphological and molecular level adaptations of invasive species, pollination ecology, urban ecology, conservation ecology and ecological models. The workshop will consists of lectures from the experts/scientists on various ecological issues and practical training in research methods with an intention that the participants can apply them in their research programme. Completed application form can be sent to Dr. S. Chandrasekaran or Prof. P. Sudhakar Swamy, th Convener(s), 34 Winter School on Contemporary Ecological Issues, Department of Plant Sciences, School of Biological Sciences, Madurai Kamaraj University, th Madurai - 625 021, on or before 30 January, 2017. The candidate will be selected on the basis of qualification and research interest. Priority will be given to young researchers/scientists, faculty who are at the beginning of their research career working in the Universities, Research Departments of Colleges and Research Institutes. Applications should be forwarded by their research supervisors/Head of the Department / Head of the Institution. TA/DA and Accommodation UGC-NRCBS, MKU will provide TA/DA and accommodation for eligible outstation participants as per Madurai Kamaraj University regulations. Participants should produce a certificate stating that they are not provided with TA/DA from their Institute (Head of the Department/Institute) and the training period shall be considered as 'On Duty' by the Institution.
